2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Buffalo Sabres win 4-3 against the Vancouver Canucks during overtime

The 249th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was expected to be a goal fiesta match. Although there were not many goals but the 7 goals that were scored provided a lot of entertainment. The match took place at the HSBC Arena as the
home team Buffalo Sabres was up against the Vancouver Canucks. The Vancouver Canucks played the 17th game of the campaign while the Buffalo Sabres played the 19th game of the campaign thus far.
Though both teams were evenly matched as the match started, the Buffalo Sabres were able to covert the chances into goals to take the lead. The Vancouver Canucks also came across scoring opportunities every now and then but they couldn’t score.
The period saw its first goal being scored by the Buffalo Sabres in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Tyler Ennis through a simple tip in shot. The home team kept the pressure on the opposing defence which resulted in another goal in the
18th minute by Cody McCormick that took the score to 2-0 .The period ended with the Buffalo Sabres leading.
During the course of the period, the Buffalo Sabres made 13 goal attempts while the Vancouver Canucks made 15 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match was no different as the teams were matched and it was just a matter of grabbing the opportunities. The Vancouver Canucks was able to score this time out with a goal in the 8th minute to trail by just 1 goal.
The goal was scored by Daniel Sedin through a backhand shot.
The Buffalo Sabres were content on winning the game and cemented their chances of a victory by scoring in the 14th minute to take the score to 3-1. The goal was scored by Steve Montador through a decent strike as the period came to end with the
same score.
The final period of the match saw the Vancouver Canucks turn the tables as they scored in the 5th minute through Alexander Edler and then in the 10th minute through Mikael Samuelsson to level the scores. The score at that time was tied
up at 3-3.
The period didn’t see any further goals as the period and the regulation time ended. During the course of the final period, the Buffalo Sabres made 8 goal attempts while the Vancouver Canucks made 12 goal attempts.
However, the Buffalo Sabres eventually won the match with a goal from Tyler Myers in the 5th minute during overtime that took the score to 4-3.
