2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Buffalo Sabres win 5-4 against New Jersey Devils after shootout
The 211th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at Prudential Centre in New Jersey. The game saw the home team; New Jersey Devils play Buffalo Sabres in front of 14,500 fans this Wednesday. It was the 16th game of regular
season for both teams. The match was one of the toughest encounters that saw Sabres eventually win 5-4.
The match was evenly poised and both teams had their share of chances. Momentum was seen shifting every now and then but it were Devils that managed the only goal of 1st period to take the first lead. It was scored by Jason Arnott through an extravagant
backhand shot from 9 feet in the 11th minute. The period ended with Devils leading 1-0 as Sabres made 8 goal attempts while Devils made 9.
The 2nd period proved to be a goal fiesta as it saw both teams score 3 goals each. Sabres were the first to score through Jason Pominville via a powerful strike in the 6th minute.
They continued with their dominating performance and scored another goal after only 13 seconds. This time, the goal was scored by Derek Roy from a slap shot that went flying into the back of the net. It put the away team in the lead.
Devils scored in the 8th minute to level things up. The goal scorer was David Clarkson who scored from an 11 feet strike that took a deflection on its way. Devils again scored 5 minutes later through Jason Arnott, who bagged his 2nd
goal of the night.
The momentum shifted and this time it were Sabres who scored in the 14th minute through Tyler Myers. The 2nd period didn’t see more happening until the 19th minute when Devils scored to again take the lead. The goal was scored by Jamie
Langenbrunner. Thus, the period ended with Devils leading by 4-3.
The final period saw Sabres score a goal in the 9th minute to level. The goal scorer was Tyler Ennis who scored through a flick shot that was perfectly placed. The final period ended with scores level at 4-4.
The match went into overtime where no goals were scored as a result the match went into shootout. Derek Roy’s goal in the shootout won Buffalo Sabres the match 5-4.
