2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Calgary Flames finally register win as they beat the Minnesota Wild 3-0
The 351st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between the Calgary Flames and the Minnesota Wild as scheduled. The event was conducted at Scotiabank Saddledome, home of the Calgary Flames this Monday. There were around 19,000
fans that came to witness the match as the Minnesota Wild played their 23rd game while the Calgary Flames played their 24th game.
The Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames both made superb starts to the match as they displayed splendid passing and shooting abilities. Not only was the offence strong but the defence matched the offence in terms of energy and game play.
The puck was seen going to and from with both teams attacking. It wasn’t the case of the offence being weak but the defence was absolutely brilliant. The offence played its part by getting past the defence but couldn’t find the finishing touch.
At the end, as a last resort both teams started to attack and piled up shots after shots. Though there were above 20 goal attempts in the first 20 minutes but no goals were scored. The period ended with the scores levelled on 0-0. The Calgary Flames made
11 goal attempts while the Minnesota Wild made 12 goal attempts.
The 2nd period was started on a high note by the home side as their offence started to get stronger and stronger. They got the better of the opposing defence in the 4th minute and scored to take the lead. The goal was scored by Jay
Bouwmeester through a powerful strike.
The home team was backed by the home fans and they pressed on and managed to double the lead with another goal in the same minute. The goal was scored by Captain of the Flames Jarome Iginla from a flick shot continuing on with his sublime form.
The Calgary Flames took the foot off the gas after a few more shots. Resultantly, the Minnesota Wild made goal attempts as the period was coming to its end. There were no further goals despite of some convincing goal attempts at the end.
The Calgary Flames led 2-0 as the teams went into the break with the Flames making 10 goal attempts while the Minnesota Wild made 7 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams approach the game with attacking mentality. The home side was able to take advantage early on but couldn’t convert their chances. The middle part of the final period saw the away side coming up with excellent pieces of play
but like their counterparts they couldn’t score.
The Calgary Flames managed to score in the 19th minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was scored by Niklas Hagman through a flick shot.
The period didn’t see any further goal threatening attacks as the Calgary Flames won the match 3-0 keeping the clean sheet intact.
Minnesota Wild made 13 goal attempts in the final period while the Calgary Flames made 10 goal attempts.
