2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Calgary Flames head to face the New York Rangers
(Preview)
The Calgary Flames will be heading to New York to face the New York Rangers this Monday. This is the only meeting of the two teams during the season. The last time they faced each other on 7th November 2009, the Calgary Flames won the match 3-2
but times were different back then. During that match, the Flames goal keeper made 32 saves which is no way near the performance that he is showing this time.
The Calgary Flames has not had the kind of start they and the team expected from them. The disappointment rose further in yesterday’s encounter as they lost the game against the Detroit Red Wings despite leading the match 4-2. They lost the match in overtime
5-4 as their defence crumbled and saw the Red Wings scoring with the just 4 seconds of play left.
The Calgary Flames have so far played a total of 19 games, out of which they have won only 9 games and lost 10 games. They have 17 points which is no way near the quality of game and results they are capable of coming up with.
One of the main reasons for the Flames not coming across frequent success is the fact that they are unable to convert their penalties; added to this is the fact that they don’t utilize the power plays fully.
Alex Tanguay of the Calgary Flames regarding their form and misses currently said, "We've got to be smarter and we've got to find ways to stay away from the penalty box," Tanguay said. "We're up 4-2 , we had a four-minute power play and the power play's
been scoring the last three games. We had a chance to bury them and take care of our destiny and we didn’t. Not much else you can say."
The New York Rangers came up with an impressive performance at Minnesota as they defeated them 5-2 and are looking good ahead of the match.
The New York Rangers have currently played 21 games out of which they have won 12 games and lost 9 and have a total of 23 points.
The Rangers are starting to pile up good results and regarding their current form Coach John Tortorella said, "You'd like to think we're developing a little bit of mental toughness in trying to grind through and stop the bleeding after a game like (Friday)
night."
However, the Flames cause would be boosted a great deal after their Captain Jarome Iginla bagged a couple of goals. The New York Rangers will also receive a lift from the fact that their star player Brandon Dubinsky is in good form and has scored 12 goals
thus far in the season.
