2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Calgary Flames versus the New Jersey Devils
Like the trend follows for the sequence of matches scheduled for Wednesday, the New Jersey Devils playing host to the Calgary Flames is another game that is going to take place once in the season. The last time these two team met, the Calgary Flames showed
some impressive ice hockey that saw them dominating the game and winning it 5-3 in the end on the 5th of March 2010.
Brent Sutter, Head Coach of the Calgary Flames is one of the most talented Head Coaches. Sutter started his coaching career in the NHL in 2007 when he was hired by the New Jersey Devils and spent two good seasons with the team.
However, he resigned from the job due to some personal reasons but was hired by the Calgary Flames two weeks later. Being one of the good Head Coaches the Devils should expect the Flames giving them a tough time during the course of the match.
The Calgary Flames Captain Jarome Iginla is leading by example and scoring regularly but the rest of the team hasn’t been able to find their touch as yet. The Flames are constantly failing to perform as a single unit which is going against them and hindering
them from the much success that they came achieve.
Jarome Iginla has successfully scored 6 goals in the last 3 games to emerge as one of the strong offensive players in the league. The Calgary Flames crisis comes from everywhere after the brilliant start they made and constructed a three games winning streak
in late October. They have recently missed penalties. Added to this is the fact that their inefficiency to combine and lead attacks as a single unit is costing them dearly.
"With the schedule we have this week, it's not the best schedule, but we can't afford to give up games," Flames forward Rene Bourque said. "We played a good game (Monday) night, but we beat ourselves again. A lot of games we haven't been able to keep the
lead and we have to change that. We still have (62) games left but it's going by fast and we can't play catch-up all year."
The Calgary Flames have played 20 games so far winning 9 games while losing 11 and have scored 17 points. On the other hand, their opposition on Wednesday New Jersey Devils has played 21 games out which they have won only 8 games losing the 13 games and
scored 13 points.
The New Jersey Devils was going through a bad face until recently when they managed to overpower one of the giants in the league, Washington Capitals 5-0. The Devils was helped on its way to this absolutely brilliant performance by their rookie star Mattias
Tedenby who scored 3 goals and made 2 assists.
Talking about his performance, Jason Arnott forward of the Devils said, "He's getting better each game," Arnott said. "As long as we talk to him constantly throughout the game and help him out, he's getting better as the games go on and he's getting more
confidence. To have confidence makes the game that much easier."
Both the teams have a strong attack leading into the game which would result in a very interesting match as the two teams would be battling to record a win to stabilize their season.
