2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Calgary Flames win 3-2 against Philadelphia Flyers
The 323rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Philadelphia Flyers play host to the Calgary Flames. The match was played at the Wells Fargo Centre and was the only game that took more than 60 minutes to be decided.
There were around 20,000 fans that came in support of the teams as the Calgary Flames played their 22nd game while the Philadelphia Flyers played the 24th game of the campaign so far.
The first period of the match saw both the teams making a slow start to the match. The Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers were reluctant to attack due to the strong and very effective counter attacking abilities of both the teams.
The first part of the period saw the Philadelphia Flyers gain confidence and they started to make attacks regularly. The period saw the Flyers almost scoring on two or three occasion but the shots went just wide off the goal.
The away side started to attack as well as the period neared its end. There were some strong shots but like their counterparts, the Calgary Flames failed to convert the chances and the period ended with the scores level on 0-0. During the course of the period
the Flyers made 11 goal attempts while the Calgary Flames made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Philadelphia Flyers make a good start as they were stronger on the offence. They managed to score in the 4th minute of the period to take the lead of the match. The goal was scored by Nikolay Zherdev through a
flick shot.
The Calgary Flames responded to this with shots right from the start after the goal. The away side successfully scored in the 14th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Curtis Glencross through a wonderful backhand shot.
The Philadelphia Flyers were keen on regaining the lead and managed in doing so with a goal in the 16th minute of period. The goal was scored by James Riemsdyk through a perfect flick shot. The period saw the home team making several goal attempts
but no further goals were scored in the period the Philadelphia Flyers led 2-1 into the break.
During the 2nd period the Calgary Flames made 8 goal attempts while the Philadelphia Flyers made 13 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the Calgary Flames come out determined to score. Their determination and confidence leading into the attacks paid off as they managed to score in the 8th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Steve Staios
through a powerful strike.
The 3rd period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the period the Calgary Flames made 12 goal attempts while the Philadelphia Flyers made 8 goal attempts.
The match went into overtime but no goals were scored, which took the match to a shootout. Rene Bourque’s goal in the shootout won the Calgary Flames the match 3-2.
