2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Calgary Flames win 4-0 against the San Jose Sharks
The 113th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between the San Jose Sharks and the Calgary Flames. The match took place at the home of the Calgary Flames at the Scotibank Saddledome. There were around 20,000 fans that came
this past Sunday to witness the match. The San Jose Sharks were playing in their 7th game and the Calgary Flames were playing their 8th game of the NHL regular season thus far. The match saw 4 goals being scored in the 1st
period which were the only goals of the match and came in favour of the Calgary Flames as they won the match 4-0.
1st Period
The period stared on a high for the San Jose Sharks as they were the ones who fired early shots on the opposing goal. However, as they game saw the minutes go by, the Calgary Flames started to get into the rhythm and passed the puck around without any trouble.
The home dominated the possession and with the pin point passing they came up with, enabled them to find players in open position regularly. The home team scored in the 5th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Rene Bourque from a shot
that was hit from 32 feet with a lot of power.
The home team pressed on after they scored the 1st goal. The perfect passing and shooting continued as they scored in the 7th minute once again. The goal took the score to 2-0 for the Calgary Flames. The goal was scored by the Captain
Jarome Iginla through a powerful strike from 44 feet that went flying into the net.
With the score 2-0 the fans demanded more goals as they cheered for their team. The home team responded to this with another goal in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Craig Conroy from 24 feet through a flick shot that was perfectly placed.
The Calgary Flames took the foot off the gas after the 3rd goal. The San Jose Sharks decided to take the risk and attack with full force. This proved to fatal as the Calgary Flames scored once again to bagged their 4th goal of the match.
The period ended with the score 4-0 in favour of the Calgary Flames who made 14 goal attempts. The San Jose Sharks made 6 goal attempts and didn’t score any goal.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw both teams adopt the attacking mentality. Neither of the team scored in the period and there game saw very fast plays.
The puck was seen moving to and fro with both teams counter attacking each other regularly but there were no goals during the period.
During the course of the period, the Calgary Flames made 10 goal attempts and the San Jose Sharks made 10 goal attempts but the score was still 4-0.
3rd Period
The San Jose Sharks started the 3rd period strongly defensively and as the period progressed, they gained confidence and started to attack up front as well.
The defence of the San Jose Sharks was very strong during the final period as they restricted the home to long range shooting. During the period, again, there were no goals and the period and match ended with the Calgary Flames winning the game 4-0.
The period saw the Calgary Flames making 6 goal attempts and the San Jose Sharks making 10 goal attempts but none of these shots found the back of the net.
"Whether we scored or not we were playing well," Calgary coach Brent Sutter said.
"We were able to have the emotion level we wanted to have. We took advantage of the opportunities and made the most of them."
"Anytime you're scoring, you want to have the puck on your stick," Bourque said. "I feel like I could make plays happen right now. We're just getting the puck deep and coming up the middle of the ice with speed. It seems to be pushing the 'D'
back and it's giving us a lot of room and a lot of time with the puck to find other guys open."
