2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Rangers 4-3 in after a very tight battle

The Carolina Hurricanes was up against the New York Rangers this Friday. The match took place at the Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers with around 18,000 fans that came in support of their cherished teams. The match was one of the very
exciting and tough matches of the season as the winner was decided in the last period, Carolina Hurricanes who were successful in overpowering the home team winning 4-3.
1st Period
The home team started the match with good and dangerous attacks. They came across numerous scoring chances but they couldn’t score. The New York Rangers comprehensive beat the Carolina Hurricanes defence and came near to scoring twice in the 10th
minute once by the goal keeper and once by the post.
However, it was the Carolina Hurricanes who took the lead in the 16th minute when they scored through Tuomo Ruutu. The goal came as a result of a splendid flick shot from 10 feet. The period saw the Carolina Hurricanes come across more scoring
opportunities but they just couldn’t score. The period ended with the Carolina Hurricanes in the lead with the score on 1-0.
During the course of the period, the home team made 11 goal attempts and the away team made 12 goal attempts scoring once.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw the Carolina Hurricanes come to the field with loads of confidence and determined to score. They were successful in doing so in the very first minute to double the lead.
The goal was scored by Jeff Skinner through a powerful shot from 12 feet that went flying past the goal keeper. Both teams came out with very attacking mentality with no defence at all. Both teams were content on establishing a good lead.
However, putting pressure despite the 2 goals lead went against the Carolina Hurricanes. They left open spaces at the back which resulted in the New York Rangers scoring to cut the lead to just 1 goal. The goal was scored by Ryan Callahan in the 5th
minute through a simple tip in shot from 15 feet.
The period become a little slower after the goal but took pace once again after the 10th minute as both teams saw numerous scoring opportunities come their way. The New York Rangers determination and hard work saw them scoring in the 13th
minute to level the match. The goal was scored by Marc Staal from 13 feet from a flick shot.
The Carolina Hurricanes was able get ahead almost immediately when they scored in the in the 14th minute to take the score to 3-2. The goal was scored by Jeff Skinner once again this time from a backhand shot from 9 feet shot.
Spectators thought this was it for the period but there was a twist in the tale. The New York Rangers scored once again to level the match once again. The goal was scored by Brandon Dubinsky in the 16th minute through a powerful shot from 18 feet.
The period didn’t see further goal as the 20 minutes ended with the score 3-3. During the period, the Carolina Hurricanes scored twice out of the 8 goal attempts they made and the New York Ranger scored 3 goals out of the 18 goal attempts.
3rd Period
The last period was very entertaining as the teams were level in terms of score. Like the previous 2 periods the team had scoring opportunities but they couldn’t convert them into goals.
However, the Carolina Hurricanes got their noses ahead in the 17th minute to take the lead once again. The goal was scored by Erik Cole from a flick shot from 11 feet. The period and match ended with the score 4-3 in favour of the Carolina Hurricanes.
