2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Carolina Hurricanes win 7-1 against Edmonton Oilers

9th November, 2010 saw the Carolina Hurricanes play host to the Edmonton Oilers. The match took place at the RBC Centre in front of 12,000 fans as part of the 205th game of the NHL Premiere Series.
The Edmonton Oilers were playing in their 13th game while the Carolina Hurricanes played the 15th game of the NHL Premiere Series thus far. The home team dominated play right from the start to win the game 7-1.
The Carolina Hurricanes opened their account in the 1st minute through Patrick Dwyer. The goal was scored from a shot made from 7 feet that found a deflection on its way. The home team continued to dominate the proceedings. Their hard work paid
off in the 2nd minute as the Carolina Hurricanes doubled the lead. The goal was scored by Erik Cole from a flick shot made from 14 feet.
The Carolina Hurricanes scored once again in the 5th minute. The goal was scored by Joe Corvo from an extravagant shot from 19 feet. With the score on 3-0 the home team didn’t stop from attacking. As a result, they came across scoring opportunities
every now and then.
The Carolina Hurricanes managed to score once again in the 8th minute. The goal was scored by Chad Larose from a perfectly placed flick shot 21 feet away from goal. The period ended with the Carolina Hurricanes leading 4-0. During the course of
the period, the Hurricanes made 12 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period was not as productive in the terms of goals but the level of energy and chances were almost the same in this period. The Carolina Hurricanes scored the only goal of the period in the 5th minute. The goal was scored by
Joe Corvo, who bagged his 2nd for the night. The period came to an end with the Carolina Hurricanes leading 5-0. During the period the Carolina Hurricanes made 14 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 7 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Carolina Hurricanes continue their impressive performance. They managed to bag their 6th goal of the match in the 2nd minute. The goal was scored by Sergei Samsonov through a spectacular backhand shot from 28
feet. After this, the Edmonton Oilers came up with some good pieces play which resulted in them scoring in the 6th minute. The goal was scored by Dustin Penner from 11 feet through a flick shot.
However, the Carolina Hurricanes took the score to 7-1 with a goal in the 8th minute of the final period. The goal was scored by Jeff Skinner through a simple tip-in shot from 17 feet. During the final period the Hurricanes made 16 goal attempts
while the Edmonton Oilers 6 goal attempts as the Hurricanes won the match 7-1.
