2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Defending Champions Chicago Blackhawks lose 2nd game in a row against the New York Rangers 3-2
The 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series took us to New York where the 157th game of the season took place. The match saw the New York Rangers play host to the Chicago Blackhawks this Monday at Madison Square Garden in front of around 18,000 fans.
The New York Rangers played the 11th game of their campaign, while the Chicago Blackhawks played their 14th hoping to establish a winning streak. It was a tough game that saw the New York Rangers seal the match in the last period 3-2.
1st Period
The home team started the period on a high as they came up with splendid pieces of play and displayed some extravagant shooting. Not only did the team display this but they also maintained a very tight defence.
This was the case for most of the period and both teams. The defending champions were content on registering a win after not such a good start to the season. They managed to score and take the lead in the 18th minute when they scored during power
play. The goal came as a result of Tomas Kopecky tip in from 9 feet.
However, the lead didn’t last long as the New York Rangers levelled the scored in the 19th minute. The goal came after superb passing by the home team that saw the puck in the back of the net at the end. The goal was scored by Brandon Dubinsky
through a backhand shot from 12 feet.
The period came to an end with both teams going into the break scoring once in the period. During the period, the New York Rangers made 7 goal attempts and the Chicago Blackhawks made 13 goal attempts.
2nd Period
The New York Rangers started off the 2nd period on top. They dominated the proceedings while displaying some excellent ice hockey. The dominance didn’t only exist in offence but also in offence and midfield.
Both teams gave all they had coming up with attacks in the end but neither of the teams could find a goal. As the period was nearing its end, the Chicago Blackhawks started to make strong attacks too. Although the Blackhawks couldn’t score, they dominated
the game to some extent during the final stages of the period.
The period came to an end with the teams still level on 1-1. The period saw the New York Rangers making 10 goal attempts and the Chicago Blackhawks making 8 goal attempts.
3rd Period
The home team sent the crowd wild as they scored in the very 1st minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Brandon Dubinsky who bagged his 2nd goal of the night. The goal came as a result of a simple tip in from 11 feet and put
the home team in the lead.
After the Ranger’s goal, the Blackhawks piled up some good pieces of play and scored to level the game once again. The goal was scored in the 7th minute by Evander Kane through a brilliant 20 feet flick that went in the right corner.
However, the joy was short lived as the New York Rangers scored once again to take the lead. The goal came in the 7th minute through Erik Christensen, who hit a decent shot from 22 feet that resulted in the puck going into the goal through the
legs of the goal keeper. The Chicago Blackhawks started to come up with decent plays after they fell behind. Their search for a good was almost successful when they almost scored in the 17th minute only to be denied by the goal keeper. The period
and the game ended with the score 3-2 in favour of the New York Rangers.
During the period the New York Rangers scored twice out of the 6 goal attempts they made and the Chicago Blackhawks scored once of their 14 goal attempts.
