During the 1st period, the Chicago Blackhawks started off in a strong manner as they displayed great character and managed to come up with good attempts early on. There was no shortage of supplies from the midfield but the problem was up ahead
that couldn’t net the puck.
On the other hand, the St. Louis Blues got stronger as the period progressed and started to come up with attacks too. But to their disappointment, the shot either went wide or the goal keeper was often in the way. Both teams were trying hard to score but

goal lead. The goal was scored by David Perron who scored his 2nd goal of the match from a 22 feet snap off shot.
The defending champions shifted gears from then onwards and showed why they won the cup last time out. The Chicago Blackhawks scored in the14th minute to cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored from 11 feet superb backhand by Marian Hossa. With the game

This meant that the game went overtime and Patrick Sharp’s goal in the 4th minute of overtime saw the Chicago Blackhawks win the match 3-2.
"I feel healthy, that's the No.1 thing," said Hossa, who battled through shoulder and knee injuries last season.
"The shoulder is fine and the knee is fine. That's the main thing, because I believe (my) skating and the moving the puck is much better than let's say in the playoffs, when I was a little limited. I feel great. Pucks are finding me and I'm trying to be
available for my teammates."
"(Hossa's) been playing at a great level for us and he was instrumental in getting us back in the game," Chicago Coach Joel Quenneville said. "It ended up being a huge two points for us."
