2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Chicago Blackhawks win 4-3 against the Buffalo Sabres
One of the entertaining matches that took place on Monday, 11th October 2010 was the Buffalo Sabres against the Chicago Blackhawks. A crowd of around 18,000 people was present at the HSBC Arena to support their respective teams as they demanded
a win. Though the Buffalo Sabres came up with quite a show at the beginning, but eventually with their experience and terrific performance in the match, the Chicago Blackhawks won the match 4-3.
1st Period
With one of the most explosive starts to a match, the Buffalo Sabres scored in the 14th second of the 1st period and took the lead.
The goal was scored by Drew Stafford from 28 feet through a snap off. Taking the lead gave the home team the confidence to search for another goal. The Buffalo Sabres came up with some brilliant plays during the period, and in the end hit a powerful shot.
This resulted in the Buffalo Sabres scoring once again against the defending champions in the 3rd minute. The goal was scored by Derek Roy through some fabulous wrist work from 13 feet. This put the home team in a comfortable position with the
score on 2-0 to their favour.
Showing nerves of steel during the later part of the period, the defending Stanley Cup champions managed to pull one goal back when they scored in the 8th minute of the period through Patrick Kane from 48 feet.
The period ended with the score 2-1 in favour of the Buffalo Sabres who scored 2 goals after making 13 goal attempts, whereas the Chicago Blackhawks scored once out of 5 goal attempts.
2nd Period
The Chicago Blackhawks came out strong in the 2nd period. When the two teams were seen playing on the pitch, the Blackhawks looked to be more determined to score and win. Added to this was the fact that they came up with excellent passing and
shooting in the period.
Consequently, they scored in the 5th minute of the period to level things on 2-2. The goal was scored by Nick Leddy from a distance of 49 feet through a splendid wrist off. With the game all tied up, both teams were eager to take the lead.
The defending champions had a scary moment in the 10th minute but the shot hit towards their goal just went wide. Otherwise, it was a good defence that the Chicago Blackhawks maintained in the period. The defence was also a great deal of help,
as it found forward players in open position regularly.
This was the case when the Chicago Blackhawks scored in the 19th minute to take the lead 3-2. The goal was scored by Marian Hossa from a slap off from 20 feet.
With the end of the period, the Chicago Blackhawks were in the lead with the score on 3-2. The Blackhawks scored 2 goals out of the 17 goal attempts and the Buffalo Sabres couldn’t score out of the 10 goal attempts they made.
3rd Period
During the last period there nothing much to talk, as both teams couldn’t get past each other’s defence. Both crossed over the last man once and they both netted the puck.
The first of the period came through Marian Hossa who scored his 2nd goal of the match and took the score to 4-2. The Buffalo Sabres also managed to come up with good pieces of play and scored in the 6th minute through Tim Connolly.
The goal took the score to 4-3 with the Blackhawks leading with just one goal.
The match saw no further goals as the defending champions won the match 4-3 impressing many.
"We really needed this win," Hossa said. "We tightened up defensively."
"They wound up getting one off their skate, but that's what happens when you get pucks on the net," Sabres captain Craig Rivet said. "We would like to take a few of those situations back."
