2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Colorado Avalanche win 4-3 against the Dallas Stars after shootout
The 291st game was played at the American Airlines Centre as scheduled on the 20th of November 2010. The game saw the Colorado Avalanche playing their 20th game up against the Dallas Stars who played the 18th game
of their campaign thus far. The match took place in front of 17,000 fans which turned out to be a very tight encounter with the Colorado Avalanche finally winning it in shootout with the score on 4-3.
Both the teams made a cautious start to the match as they didn’t attack and looked for open spaces rather than going on the attack. The patience worked for the Colorado Avalanche as they scored in the 5th minute to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Milan Hejduk from a simple flick shot. The period didn’t see much happening as it ended with the Colorado Avalanche leading 1-0. During the course of the period, the Dallas Stars made 7 goal attempts while the Colorado Avalanche made
5 goal attempts.
The 2nd period started in spectacular fashion for the away side as they got into scoring position right from the start of the match.
The Colorado Avalanche was successful in scoring in the 4th minute of the period to double the lead. The goal was scored by Milan Hejduk once again this time from a tip in shot. The Colorado Avalanche pressed on in search of another goal and successfully
scored in the 6th minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was scored by David Jones from a backhand shot.
The home team responded to this with attacks too and finally scored in the 14th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Adam Burish from a powerful strike. The home team scored once again in the very next play after restart to cut the lead
to just one goal. The goal was scored by Brenden Morrow as the teams went into the break with the Colorado Avalanche leading 3-2.
The final period of the match saw the Dallas Stars come out stronger of the two teams. They managed to pile up shot regularly and with the backing of the home crowd scored in the 11th minute to level the score. The goal was scored by James Neal
from a flick shot.
The period ended with the score on 3-3 and thus the match went into overtime. No goals were seen in the overtime but the Colorado Avalanche won the match 4-3 as Kevin Porter’s goal in shootout made the difference.
