2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Colorado Avalanche win 5-1 against New York Rangers

The 279th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between the Colorado Avalanche and the New York Rangers. The match took place at the Pepsi Centre, home of the Colorado Avalanche with 16,000 fans coming to witness the match.
The match saw the New York Rangers play the 20th game of the campaign while the Colorado Avalanche played the 19th game of the campaign.
A cautious start was made to the match by both the teams as they waited for opportunities to come their way. Neither of the team pressed forward as they were well aware of the fact that both the teams were very strong on the counter attacks.
The home team as well as the away team put the foot on the gas as the period was nearing its end but they failed to score and the period ended with the score deadlocked at 0-0. The period saw the Colorado Avalanche making 9 goal attempts while the New York

The home team was relentless and with the dominating performance managed to score once again in the 13th minute. This time the goal was scored by Matt Duchene from a well placed shot.
The Colorado Avalanche established a 4 goal lead to their advantage with another goal in the 16th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Kevin Shattenkirk as the period ended with the score 4-0 in favour of the home team.
The period saw the Colorado Avalanche making 10 goal attempts while the New York Rangers made 9 goal attempts.
The final period of the match was pretty much balanced as both the teams made 8 goal attempts during the course of the period. The Colorado Avalanche scored another goal during the period in the 5th minute to take the score to 5-0 with the goal
scored by Daniel Winnik from a spectacular backhand shot.
The New York Rangers managed to score their only goal in response to this in the 7th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Derek Stephen as the Colorado Avalanche won the match 5-1.
