2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Columbus Blue Jackets versus the New York Islanders
The New York Islanders will be facing the Columbus Blue Jackets in their only meeting of the season this Wednesday, 24th November 2010. The last time the two teams met each other on the 27th March 2010, The New York Islanders edged
out ahead of the opposing team 4-3. Josh Bailey was the star of the Islanders as he scored in overtime as the Islanders clinched the victory.
The big story of the match is that both the teams are going in opposite directions keeping in mind their recent performances. The Columbus Blue Jackets have come up with three successive wins recently and all in all took their winning streak to 4 games.
The New York Islanders would be disappointed to know the fact that their team hasn’t won a single game since late October. The New York Islanders face a slump in which they have scored only 2 points out of 26 points which they could have easily scored.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have impressed many around the NHL world as they registered a win this Monday against the Nashville Predators as they won 2-0. The match saw the Captain Rick Nash score and secure the match for the home team and set the home crowd
wild. Rick Nash is on a roll recently as he has bagged 13 goals in the season thus far and is one of the most talented offensive players present in the ice hockey world today.
"I think we had the same mentality as the road games," said Nash, who had 6 goals for Columbus on the West Coast. "We forget about our last game. We were just worrying about tonight against Nashville, and that's why I think we played so well."
The Columbus Blue Jackets sit in a comfortable position with 26 points after playing 19 games thus far. The Blue Jackets have won 13 games and lost only 6 games in the season so far. The New York Islanders have only won 8 games and lost a huge 12 games out
of the 20 games played scoring 12 points.
The problem with the New York Islanders is not that their defence is weak; it’s just their irregularity of scoring goals. This Sunday the Islanders lost the game 2-1 against the Atlanta Thrashers that marked their 13th game without a win.
Concerns rise from within the team, "If I can say one thing throughout this whole thing is guys care," said Di Pietro, who made 33 saves against the Thrashers. "I hope people realize that. This eats at us. This isn't fun for anybody. It keeps guys up at
night and makes us sick to our stomachs. This is unacceptable for us. We want to start winning some games."
Despite the fact that both the goal tenders are in good shape, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be pleased to hear that their Captain Rick Nash is in good form and has scored in last 6 games and scored points consistently.
The match is undoubtedly swinging in favour of the Columbus Blue Jackets but as they say, matches aren’t won on paper so let’s wait and see whether or not the New York Islanders win or lose as most expect.
