2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Columbus Blue Jackets win 2-1 against the Philadelphia Flyers
The 114th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Columbus Blue Jackets play the Philadelphia Flyers. The game took place this past Monday at the Nationwide Area, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets. There were around 12,000 who came
in support of their respective teams to cheer them to victory. This was the 8th game of the campaign so far for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Columbus Blue of the NHL regular season. The game was a very tough encounter with few goals with the
Columbus Blue Jackets winning the match 2-1.
1st Period
The Philadelphia Flyers started off the proceedings strongly and were looking to come up with goal scoring opportunities on regular basis. The home team were able to cope with the pressure that away team came up with.
The Columbus Blue Jackets not only maintained a tight defence they also came up with strong attacks up ahead. The game saw good pieces of play developing from both sides but they lacked the final touch. The only thing that hindered goals was the goal keepers.
The goal keepers of both sides managed brilliant saves during the course of the period.
The home team was pumped up, all fired with the backing of the home team, and scored in the 13th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Kyle Wilson from close range through a simple flick shot. Taking the lead, the home team pushed forward
for another goal but they couldn’t score.
The period ended with the score 1-0 in favour of the Columbus Blue Jackets as they made 11 goal attempts and the Philadelphia Flyers made 10 goal attempts out of which no goals were scored.
2nd Period
The Philadelphia Flyers started the 2nd period on a high once again but they like the 1st period they couldn’t score once again. There were regular attacks but this time the shots just went wide every now and then.
The Philadelphia Flyers got a chance to level things in the 8th minute but the goal keeper stopped a splendid shot that was destined to find the back of the net. However, the Columbus Blue Jackets caught the Philadelphia Flyers on a counter attack
in the 10th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Derick Brassard. The goal was scored by Brassard from close range through a tip in. From then onwards the home team maintained a very tight defence that didn’t allow any players to
pass through and come near the goal.
The period came to end with the Columbus Blue Jackets doubling their lead with the score 2-0. During the period, the home team made 14 goal attempts and scored once and the Philadelphia Flyers made 7 unsuccessful goal attempts.
3rd Period
The last period saw the away team come up with a very strong defence that was not only till the backline. The midfield players also played in the defensive mode as to restrict the home team to long range shooting only.
The starting of the period was good for the Columbus Blue Jackets who made a few goal attempts but as the period moved on; the Philadelphia Flyers gained confidence and fired shots regularly. The away team was successful in scoring through Ville Leino to
cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored in the 16th minute through a spectacular tip from 10 feet.
The period didn’t see more goals as the Columbus Blue Jackets won the match 2-1.
At the end of the match the Philadelphia Coach said, "It's completely frustrating," Peter Laviolette said after his team lost for the fifth time in five games.
"We got exactly what we deserved tonight.”
"There was no jam to our game. We played mindless hockey without any energy, without any passion."
"Honestly, I didn't see the puck coming," Brassard said. 'It was right on my tape and I had an open net."
