2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Columbus Blue Jackets win 3-0 against the San Jose Sharks
The final game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the host team San Jose Sharks took place on Saturday at the HP Pavilion Arena. The match was played in front of 18,000 fans that came in support of their respective teams with the Columbus Blue Jackets
playing their 18th game while the San Jose Sharks played their 11th game of the season thus far.
The match saw the away side quick out of the blocks and they managed to score in the 4th minute of the period to take the lead. The goal was scored by Captain Rick Nash that broke the deadlock from a splendid flick shot that was perfectly placed
in the left bottom corner.
The home team got stronger with the passage of time but couldn’t score. The period came to an end with the home teams making 15 goal attempts at the end of the period while the Columbus Blue Jackets made 10 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw both teams come out determined to score. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks matched each other in the department of defence and offence. Neither team was ready to give the other team any space and
with the strong attacks and a little more determination, the Columbus Blue Jackets was successful in scoring in the 16th minute of the period to double the lead.
The goal was scored by Rick Nash once again who bagged his second goal of the night through a flick shot. The period ended with the away side leading the match 2-0 as both the team made 9 goal attempts during the course of the period.
The final period of the match saw the San Jose Sharks make a strong start to the match as they bombarded shots at the opposing goal every now and then. The home team was successful in getting past the defence but they couldn’t find the final touch and score
during the early stages of the match.
The away side had the share of the chances but they too couldn’t score during the course of the period. The away side managed to score in the 20th minute of the period to take the score to 3-0 with the goal scored by Rick Nash once again who completed
his hat-trick for the night.
The period and the match ended with the Columbus Blue Jackets winning the match 3-0 as they 8 goal attempts in the final period while the San Jose Sharks made 11 goal attempts.
