2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Columbus Blue Jackets win 4-3 New York Islanders
The 308th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New York Islanders play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The match was played at the Nassau Coliseum in front of 8,500 fans. The match saw the Columbus Blue Jackets play their
20th game while the New York Islanders played the 21st game of the campaign. Both the teams came up with splendid performances and were level on scores at the end of regular time. The Columbus Blue Jackets managed to pull it off in the
end, winning the game 4-3.
The New York Islanders made a great start to the match, firing a few early shots and they came close to scoring in the starting minutes of the period. The New York Islanders were successful in scoring in the 11th minute of the period to take the
lead. The goal was scored by Trent Hunter through a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net.
The Columbus Blue Jackets managed to come up with a very strong attack after the goal and developed superb pieces of play. The Columbus Blue Jackets worked hard and were finally successful in scoring in the 14th minute to level the scores. The
goal was scored by Antoine Vermette through a simple tip in shot.
The Columbus Blue Jackets pressed on in search of another goal. They scored successful in the 16th minute and took the lead with the goal scored by Chris Clark. The period ended with the away side leading the match 2-1.
During the period, the Columbus Blue Jackets made 17 goal attempts while the New York Islanders made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw the New York Islanders start brilliantly and they scored in the 1st minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Michael Grabner from a brilliant backhand shot.
The New York Islanders continued to pile pressure on the away side and scored in the 3rd minute of the second period once again to take the lead. The goal was a result of a backhand shot by John Tavares. Despite the score 3-2 in favour of the
home team, the Islanders pressed on in search of another goal.
This didn’t work for them and the Columbus Blue Jackets scored in the 7th minute taking advantage of a counter attack. The goal was scored by RJ Umberger from a flick shot and levelled the scores at 3-3. The teams went into the break with the
scores level as both the teams made 9 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw both the teams come up with strong attacks but they couldn’t score any goal during the course of the 20 minutes as the 3rd period ended with the scores on 3-3. The match went into overtime as a result.
During the overtime, Jakub Voracek scored in the 3rd minute through a tip in shot to win the Columbus Blue Jackets the match 4-3.
