2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series Coverage – Anaheim Ducks win 2-1 against the Ottawa Senators after shootout
Ottawa Senators played host to Anaheim Ducks this Tuesday in the 687th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played at the Scotiabank Place with around 19,500 fans coming to witness the match.
The match was evenly contested by both teams with the Ottawa Senators totally dominating the second period during which they scored to level the scores. The scores at the end of the regulation time were level, which took the match into overtime. During overtime,
no goals were scored either and the match went into shootout.
Anaheim Ducks managed to outscore the Senators in shootout and won the match 2-1. Jonas Hiller, goal keeper of the Anaheim Ducks was named the player of the match for his 39 saves during the course of the match.
Both teams exploded from the start of the match as they bombarded shots on each others goal. Brilliant pieces of play along with some excellent passing were seen during the period. There were several chances for both sides to score but unfortunately the
early part of the period didn’t prove to be productive.
However, with the passage of time the intensity in the attacks made by both teams increased which resulted in a goal being scored. The goal was scored by Corey Perry for the Anaheim Ducks in the 15th minute through a splendid backhand shot.
The period saw both teams continuing to attack and coming across goal scoring chances. The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the Anaheim Ducks leading 1-0 as they made 10 goal attempts while the Ottawa Senators made 15 goal attempts.
The second period was totally dominated by the Ottawa Senators. Not only was their attack better but their defence restricted the Anaheim Ducks to almost nothing during the period. Ottawa Senators piled up attacks after attacks but couldn’t find a way past
Jonas Hiller.
The home team finally levelled the scores with the goal scored by Mike Fisher from another superb backhand shot in the 19th minute. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with Anaheim Ducks making just 3 goal attempts in the period while
Ottawa Senators made 13 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw both teams approaching the game with a little less attacking mentality which resulted in less goal attempts. Still, there were a lot of goal scoring chances for both sides. During the course of the period Anaheim Ducks made
12 goal attempts while the Ottawa Senators made 11 goal attempts but no goals were scored.
The period and regulation time ended with the scores level on 1-1 and the match went into overtime. The match went into shootout to be decided as no goals were scored during overtime. Bobby Ryan’s goal during shootout proved to be the difference as Anaheim
Ducks won the match 2-1.
