2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Dallas Stars win 4-1 against the Florida Panthers

The 88th game of the NHL regular took place at the home of the Florida Panthers who played their 5th game of the regular season thus far. The game was witnessed by around 12,000 fans at the Bank Atlantic Centre. The Dallas Stars was
playing in the 6th game of their campaign hoping for win. They certainly did what they intended and won the match dominating the game by a score 4-1.
1st Period
During the period, both teams showed good skills both defensively and offensively coming up with regular goal attempts but none of the shots found the goal. The home team was early out off the blocks as they came up with dominating plays in the midfield
as well as the shooting department.
The defence for both teams remained unpredictable during the period. At times, the defence was rock solid and at times it looked as if they were playing for the 1st time. Both teams had confidence while going on the attack but they just couldn’t
score.
However, the Dallas Star broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when they took the lead. The goal was scored by Steve Ott through a magnificent backhand shot from 21 feet. Taking advantage and capitalizing on the confidence they gained from the
goal, the Dallas Stars kept on attacking the opposing goal.
Working hard, the Dallas Stars was rewarded when they managed to scored once again in the scored in the last minute of the period to establish a 2 goals lead. The goal was scored through a perfect tip in from 11 feet by Tom Wandell. The period ended with
the Dallas Stars leading game with the score 2-0. During the course of the period, the Florida Panthers made 13 goal attempts and the Dallas Stars made 14 goal attempts while scoring 2 goals.
2nd Period
The 2nd period was also dominated by the Dallas as they started the period on a high. They came up with shots regularly and showed some excellent skills in the department of offence while maintaining a good and tight defence.
Their hard work up front and at the back saw the Dallas Stars scoring for the 3rd time in the match with the goal scored coming James Neal in the 9th minute. The goal was scored through a splendid 26 feet powerful shoot.
The Dallas Stars continuing with the dominating performance they put up along with some splendid defence scored once again to establish a lead of 4 goals. The goal was scored in the last minute of the period by Tom Wandell who bagged his 2nd goal
for the night from a 30 feet strike. The period ended as both team went into the break with the Dallas Stars leading 4-0.
3rd Period
The 3rd period saw the Dallas a bit more relaxed and took the game somewhat on the easier side, as they had 4 goals to their advantage. The home team despite this couldn’t score as many times as they could have and scored only once during the
period.
The only goal of the period was scored by Stephen Weiss, who tipped the puck in from a distance of 13 feet. The period ended as the Dallas Stars won the match 4-1 with the Florida Panthers managing a goal in the final period out of the 9 goal attempts they
made.
At the end of the match the Dallas Stars Coach said, "That was a tremendous performance from the line of Wandell, Ott and Jamie Benn coming back into the lineup," Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "That takes pressure off the (other) lines."
"Our goalie is playing so well," Crawford said. "He's just building such confidence from our group."
"I don't know if we can take much out of that game," Weiss said.
"Just a little sloppy, a little flat-footed at times. They took advantage of the chances they got and put us away. I don't think it was for a lack of effort, but just a little static at times and it came back to bite us."
"That's not an excuse, time off," Panthers coach Pete DeBoer said.
"It's disappointing. Our effort, our preparation, our attention to detail, we got beat at all the things that we're supposed to be taking pride in, outworking teams and attention to detail.”
