2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Dallas Stars winning streak ends as Tampa Bay Lightning win 5-4

The game took place at the Tampa Bay Lightning’s home St. Pete Times Forum this Monday. 13,000 fans come to visit the game as both teams wanted to win to maintain the decent start to their campaign thus far. The game saw the home team dominate the proceedings
but things became tight in the final period. However, they were able to hold on and emerge as the victors at the end with the score on 5-4.
1st Period
The game started off slowly for both teams but the teams settled in the game later. Neither of the team was ready to go on the attack at the beginning knowing the fact that both teams were very strong on the offence.
The period saw both the teams display some excellent pieces of play and dominate the game. Every time the teams went on to attack, it looked as if they would score for sure. This was not to be during the early stage as the shot went wide or the goal keeper
would come in the way.
However, it was the Dallas Stars who broke the deadlock when they scored in the 16th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Toby Peterson from 25 feet through an excellent wrist off shot. The Tampa Bay were content on not letting the
Dallas Stars settle down and take further advantage so they shifted they gears to and got on the attack.
This resulted in the game being levelled in the 17th minute when the Tampa Bay Lightning scored through Steve Dowie from 58 feet through a slap off shot. The home had the momentum in their favour and with the home crowd also backing them, the
Tampa Bay Lightning scored in the dying moments of the period to take the lead. The Tampa Bay Lighting took the lead in the 20th minute when they scored once again with a goal from Steven Stamkos.
The score at the end of the period was 2-1 in favour of the Tampa bay Lightning as they scored twice out of the 15 goal attempts and the Dallas Stars scored once out of the 7 goal attempts they made.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw the Dallas Stars start off thing on a high as they penetrated the Tampa Bay Lightning defence every now and then. The attacks that they were coming up with were strong and sometimes it looked as if they would score for sure.
Their tireless and numerous attempts to score paid off when they netted the puck in the 7th minute to level the score at 2-2. The goal was scored by Adam Burish from a distance of 21 feet through a wrist off shot.
With the scores level, the Tampa Bay Lightning once again shifted gears and took on the game offensively from then onwards. This resulted in the Tampa Bay Lightning scoring in the 10th minute to regain the lead. The goal was scored by Sean Bergenheim
from 17 feet away through a tip in. Taking the lead, the Tampa Bay Lightning pressed on for another goal and was successful in scoring in the 19th minute when Dominic Moore scored from 21 feet away from goal.
The period ended and saw the home team pile up massive 20 shots out of which 2 found the back of the net and the Dallas Stars just made 3 goal attempts out of which one goal was scored.
3rd Period
The 3rd period saw the Dallas Stars score twice but they couldn’t stop the Tampa bay Lightning as they scored too and won the game 5-4.
The first goal of the period was scored by the Tampa Bay Lightning that took the score to 5-2 with the goal scorer being Dominic Moore in the 7th minute. The 2nd and the 3rd goals of the period were scored by the Dallas Stars
coming in the 7th and the 19th minute respectively.
The first of the two goals was scored by Captain Brenden Morrow and the scored was by James Neal. The period and the match ended with score 5-4 in favour of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"The focus every game right now is on improvement, whether we win or lose," Moore said.
