2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Detroit Red Wings hold the Columbus Blue Jackets winning the match 4-2
The third and final game of Sunday saw the Detroit Red Wings play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The match was played at the Joe Louis Arena in front of 19,000 fans as the home team was cheered to strive for a win. This was the 347th game
of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series and the 22nd game for the Columbus Blue Jackets while the Detroit Red Wings played their 21st game.
The home team made a great start firing shots from everywhere on the pitch and the passing they displayed was fabulous.
The Columbus Blue Jackets also came in with a few shots but the early part of the period was totally dominated by the home side. The Detroit Red Wings came close to scoring several times but they failed to capitalize and couldn’t score any goals during the
opening 20 minutes of the match.
However, as the period neared its end the away side started to come up with strong attacks which saw them coming close to scoring a few times. The Columbus Blue Jackets finally managed to break the deadlock with a goal in the last minute of the period. The
goal was scored by Derick Brassard through a simple tip in shot.
The period ended with the away side leading 1-0 as they made 11 goal attempts while the Detroit Red Wings made 15 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the away side dominate much of the possession and camp up with strong attacks early on in the period.
But this time it was the home team that managed to score and level the scores. The goal was scored by Niklas Kronwall through a perfectly passed flick shot. The goal was scored in the 11th minute that tied the scores at 1-1.
The Detroit Red Wings' hard work was rewarded once again in the same minute as they scored once again to take the lead for the first time in the match. The goal was scored by Darren Helm from a very well placed flick shot.
The period ended with the Detroit Red Wings leading 2-1 as they made 17 goal attempts in the period as opposed to the Columbus Blue Jackets' 8.
The final period of the match saw the Detroit Red Wings start with a lot of confidence and they took full advantage of this scoring in the very first minute to take the score to 3-1. The goal was scored by Valtteri Filppula through a powerful strike that
went flying into the back of the net.
Both teams made numerous goal attempts before finally a goal was scored in the 19th minute by RJ Umberger for the Blue Jackets that cut the lead to just one goal.
However, the Detroit Red Wings scored in the final minute to seal the match. The goal was scored by Danny Cleary from a spectacular backhand shot that took the score to 4-2 in favor of the away side.
The period and the match ended with both the teams making 10 goal attempts each as the Detroit Red Wings won the match 4-2.
