2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Detroit Red Wings win 3-1 against Edmonton Oilers

The 185th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw Detroit Red Wings up against Edmonton Oilers. 17,000 fans came to the Rexall Place to watch the match as both teams were determined to register a win. The match was a tight one but Wings
managed to come out with an impressive performance, winning by 3-1 in the end.
Wings started the 1st period attacking. All they knew was that dominance is shown by scoring. They came up with some brilliant pieces of play and quick passing that didn’t allow the home side to settle. Wings scored to take the first lead. The goal was scored
in the 5th minute by Abdelkader via a backhand shot from 10 feet.
Wings pressed on in search of another goal but they didn’t find any more soon. As the period neared its end, the home team started to come up with attacks too. They displayed some excellent skills in the midfield but still couldn’t find the back of the net.
The score was 1-0 in favour of Wings as both the teams went into break. In the 1st period, the away team made 13 goal attempts while Oilers made 7.
The 2nd period saw the home team carry on from where they had left off in the first period. Their attacks were even stronger this time along with some excellent passing. Their determination to score to level paid off in the 6th minute.
The goal was scored by Taylor Hall from a flick shot.
Wings responded to this almost immediately by attacking the opposing goal. They scored once again to regain the lead. The goal was scored by Valtteri Filppula through a powerful strike from 22 feet. After this, the period didn’t see any more goals and came
to an end with Wings still leading at 2-1. During the period, both teams made 10 goal attempts while scoring one goal each.
The final period was a productive one in terms of goal attempts with Edmonton Oilers making 14 goal attempts while Detroit Red Wings also making 10 such attempts but still there weren’t too many goals. In fact, the only goal of the period was scored in favour
of Wings that sealed victory for them. This goal was scored in the 19th minute by Danny Cleary from a flick shot. Finally, the period as well as the game ended with Detroit Red Wings winning by 3-1.
