2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Detroit Red Wings win 4-0 against the Anaheim Ducks
Friday, 8th October 2010 saw the Detroit Red Wings take on the Anaheim Ducks at their home Joe Louis Arena. Both teams were playing in their first match of the season with in front of 20,000 fans. This was the 9th game of the season
thus far and expected to be one of the productive games in terms of goals. It surely was a game with 4 goals all of which came for the Detroit Red Wings as they won the match 4-0.
1st Period
The Anaheim Ducks never looked comfortable with the proceedings as they made only 1 goal attempt during the opening 5 minutes of the match.
The Detroit Red Wings were sky high backed by the home fans. The level of confidence they showed while passing and making plays was rewarded in the 6th minute as they scored. The goal came through Johan Franzen who blasted the puck from 28 feet
that went straight into the net.
The Detroit Red Wings were in the lead but wanted to increase on the 1 goal advantage. They were successful in doing so in the 7th minute once again, this time the goal scorer was Mike Modano scoring on his debut for the Detroit Red Wings. The
Detroit Red Wings took the score to 2-0 in their favour. Not only was there offence strong but they formed a non-porous and magnificent backline that didn’t give the Anaheim Ducks any space.
The period saw the Detroit Red Wings scoring twice out of the 12 goal attempts and Anaheim Ducks making 6 goal attempts out of which none went past the opposing goal keeper.
2nd Period
When the 2nd period began, the Detroit Red Wings took their foot off the gas and didn’t attack with the force that they showed during the 1st period.
The Anaheim Ducks took advantage of this and managed to make quite a few goal attempts. However, the Detroit Red Wings had other things in mind. They wanted to win and with style. They were successfully moving towards their destination when they scored once
again in the 6th minute to take the score to 3-0. The goal was a clever one through a 15 feet tip in by Pavel Datsyuk.
After establishing the 3 goal lead, the Detroit Red Wings controlled much of the period. Things were slowed according to their will and fast breaks were also observed. The period saw the Detroit Red Wings complete a dominating performance after which the
fans were seen giving them a standing ovation.
However, the Detroit weren’t done yet, with pin point and accurate passing of Pavel Datsyuk that found Dan Cleary in an open position they scored once again. The goal gave the Detroit Red Wings 4 goals advantage ensuring a victory. The teams went into the
second break of the match with the Red Wings leading 4-0.
During the course of the period, the Detroit Red Wings scored twice making 7 goal attempts and the Anaheim Ducks made 9 goals attempts.
3rd Period
The home team having 4 goals lead, didn’t see anything and took the game offensively. They didn’t bother what the game demanded, they played according to the fans liking.
All the fans urged them to score and they tried their best to score but weren’t successful in doing so. Both teams couldn’t score in the period with the home team Detroit Red Wings making 24 shots! But to the fans disappointment none were able to find the
back of the net. The Anaheim Ducks also made goal attempts but just 6.
The Detroit Red Wings won the match 4-0 with Pavel Datsyuk named the 1st star selection of the match.
"Mike is a real good player who is going to be a big part of things,"
Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "Mike is a great fit and he's going to have a lot of fun."
Anaheim Head Coach was also impressed with Mike Modano and said:
"He's a world-class player," Carlyle said. "Everybody says his skill set has been diminished, but not every time I see him play."
