2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Edmonton Oilers win 3-2 against the Colorado Avalanche
The 320th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series and the only game of Thursday saw the Edmonton Oilers play host to the Colorado Avalanche. The game was played at the Rexall played today and finished just a few minutes ago. There were around
17,000 fans that came in support of the teams as the Edmonton Oilers played their 21st game while the Colorado Avalanche played the 22nd game of their campaign.
The 1st period of the match started strongly for the home team as they fired shots at the opposing goal every now and then. The Edmonton Oilers' attacks were less but very effective. They managed to score in the 2nd minute of the period
to take the lead of the match. The goal was scored by Gilbert Brule from a brilliant flick shot.
The Edmonton Oilers kept on mounting the pressure and this worked for them once again as they scored in the 4th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Andrew Cogliano through a spectacular backhand shot. After going ahead with 2 goals
to their advantage, the home team decided to take the foot off the gas and concentrate on the defence.
However, the Colorado Avalanche took the initiative to attack and scored in the 6th minute to cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored by Kevin Shattenkirk from a flick shot. The period saw the away side making goal attempts regularly but they
couldn’t score and the teams went into the break with the home team leading 2-1.
During the course of the period the Edmonton Oilers made 4 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 11 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw the Colorado Avalanche dominate the proceeding early on and they scored in the 4th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Matt Duchene through a flick shot.
Both teams got many chances in the period especially the Colorado Avalanche but they couldn’t score. The away side tried desperately to score and gave all they had but still couldn’t score. On the other hand, the Oilers goalie was up to the task as he successfully
stopped the shots.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the course of the period the Edmonton Oilers made 7 goal attempts while the Colorado Avalanche made 17 goal attempts.
The Colorado Avalanche continued the form into the final period and came up with numerous goal attempts at the start of the match but once again couldn’t capitalize from the chances and failed to score.
The period saw the Edmonton Oilers getting stronger and stronger as the period and the match neared its end. The Edmonton Oilers were successful in scoring in the 20th minute of the match to clinch the match right at the end. The goal was scored
by Taylor Hall through a flick shot as the Edmonton Oilers won the match 3-2.
The final period of the match saw the Colorado Avalanche making 9 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 13 goal attempts.
