2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Edmonton Oilers win 4-1 against the Ottawa Senators

The 350th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the Scotiabank Place, home of the Ottawa Senators. The match saw the home team play the Edmonton Oilers. Keeping in mind the current form of the two teams anything was possible
and the match certainly proved to be a thoroughly entertaining and interesting encounter. The match was played this Monday in front of 17,000 fans as the home side played their 25th game while the Edmonton Oilers played their 23rd game
of the campaign.
The Edmonton Oilers displayed some good ice hockey skills early on as they fired shots. The passing that led into the attacks was absolutely amazing and pin. The away side dominated the play but the only flaw in the game was the fact that they left open
spaces at the back.
The home team seized the opportunity and scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Nick Foligno through a brilliant backhand shot.
Ottawa Senators was confident that they could score once again and the backing of the crowd gave them the extra bit to press on. Despite of making numerous goal attempts, the home side couldn’t double the lead and led 1-0 as the teams went into the break.
During the first 20 minutes of play, Edmonton Oilers made 7 goal attempts while Ottawa Senators made 11 goal attempts.
After a few early goal attempts at the start of the 2nd period Ottawa Senators preferred staying back and concentrating on defence. Their offence in the period merely depended on the fact that they found open spaces or not. The team came up with
rare goal attempts.
The defence of the home team restricted the Oilers to their half for most of the period but they didn’t give. The Edmonton Oilers continued to put pressure and hoped that their hard work would be rewarded.
The determination and hard work both paid off as the Edmonton Oilers scored in the 19th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Tom Gilbert through a powerful strike.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 and the Ottawa Senators making 5 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 10 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the Edmonton Oilers attack right from the word go. The away side took the lead with a goal in the 5th minute. The goal was scored by Andrew Cogliano through a tip in shot.
The Edmonton Oilers was content on shutting doors of any Ottawa Senators comeback. Their constant pressing and goal attempts saw them scoring in the 13th minute of the period once again. This time the goal was scored by Gilbert Brule.
The Edmonton Oilers sealed the win with the final goal of the match in the 19th minute. The goal was scored by Taylor Hall through a flick shot.
The period and the match ended with no further goals as the Edmonton Oilers won the match 4-1. During the final period, Ottawa Senators made 7 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 8 goal attempts.
