2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Edmonton Oilers win 4-2 against Anaheim Ducks
The 296th game of the NHL regular was played at the Honda Centre as the home team Anaheim Ducks was up against the Edmonton Oilers. The game was played this Sunday in front of 14,000 fans that cheered for their team’s victory.
This was the 19th game for the Edmonton Oilers while the Anaheim Ducks played their 23rd game.
Both the teams made a decent start to the match as they came up with good pieces of play. They not only fired shots regularly but displayed excellent passing abilities that resulted in both the teams were often seen in open scoring positions. The home team
dominated in the department of defence after the early few minutes and restricted the away side to long range shooting.
Neither of the teams was able to capitalize from the chances they got and the period ended with the scores deadlocked at 0-0. During the course of the period the Anaheim Ducks made 19 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 4 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the away side change the strategy, which was seen working for them immediately. They managed to take the lead with a goal in the 7th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Sam Gagner’s simple flick shot.
The away side pushed forward in search of another goal and successfully scored in the 9th minute to double the lead. The goal was scored by Taylor Hall from a very well placed flick shot.
The Edmonton Oilers pushed with all of their men despite the 2 goals advantage for which they paid. They Anaheim Ducks caught them on a counter attack and scored in the 17th minute twice to level the scores.
The first goal was scored by Bobby Ryan from a powerful strike while the second goal was scored by Saku Koivu from a spectacular backhand shot. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 as the home team made 13 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers
made 13 goal attempts.
The final period was won by the Edmonton Oilers if we talk about productivity. Though both the teams were tied in terms of goal attempts, the away side converted their chances into goals to win the match.
The Oilers scored in the 14th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Ales Hemsky from a flick shot. The constant attacks made by the Oilers saw them scoring once again in the final period of the period to win 4-2.
The goal was scored by Tom Gilbert from a decent long range shot. The period and the match ended as the Edmonton Oilers won the match as both the teams made 8 goal attempts during the final period.
