2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Florida Panthers dominate against New York Rangers registering a 3-0 win
The 574th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premier Series was played at the Bank Atlantic Centre on the 2nd of January 2011. The match saw the home team Florida Panthers playing host to New York Rangers with around 16,000 fans coming
to witness the match. The result of this was again an unexpected one as Rangers are in the top half in the tenth position while Panthers are in the twenty fifth spot. However, during the match there was no difference with the home team being the most productive
and winning 3-0.
Florida Panthers, playing their 36th game made a decent start to the match. Both teams fired shot on goal and developed some excellent pieces of play. This was only after waiting for the right moment and any risks which were taken were all calculated.
Not involving all of the men into the attacks and looking for the other team to make a mistake resulted in the teams cancelling each other out. Both teams had their share of chances but no goals were scored as the period ended with the scores level on 0-0.
During the period, New York Rangers made 7 goal attempts while Florida Panthers made 12 goal attempts.
The second period saw both the teams absolutely exploding right from the start. The attacks they made were not easy coming as they worked really hard to get past the defences. Both teams fired shots with the puck going up and down the pitch.
Florida Panthers struck first blood scoring through David Booth from a flick shot in the 12th minute to take the lead. Both teams continued with the attacking mentality but unfortunately, no further goals were scored as the period ended with the
Florida Panther leading 1-0. During the 20 minutes of play, both teams made 14 goal attempts each.
The final period was expected to be a tighter one than it turned out to be. Though both teams were evenly matched in terms of goal attempts in the period but it was the Florida Panthers who scored in the 9th minute to take the lead through Chris
Higgins shot.
Florida scored once again in the 19th minute through Stephen Weiss as the Panthers came up with clean sheet 3-0 win with Chris Higgins named the star selection of the match.
