2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series- Florida Panthers win 4-3 against the New York Rangers
The first game of Tuesday saw the New York Rangers host the Florida at Madison Square Garden. This was the 734th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series which saw around 18,000 fans coming to witness the match.
New York Rangers made a great start to the match but couldn’t score in the very first. The match was pretty much even over the course of first two periods. However, despite New York Rangers decent performance in the final period couldn’t stop them from facing
defeat. The match ended with the Florida Panthers winning the match 4-3. Rostislav Olesz, winger of Florida Panthers was named the star selection of the match for a goal and an assist.
New York Rangers were definitely stronger of the two teams as the period started. There were several chances for the team to go ahead but they constantly failed to score. On the other hand, as it happens in most cases that with the passage of time a team
gains confidence. In this case, it was Florida Panthers who got stronger in the middle part of the period which resulted in them scoring through Rostislav Olesz from a powerful strike in the 13th minute.
After the goal, Florida Panther preferred to defend and attack through counters only. New York Rangers fired shots on goal regularly but couldn’t manage to score. The period ended with Florida Panthers leading 1-0 as they made 4 goal attempts compared to
12 of the New York Rangers.
The second period started with both teams attacking right from the word go. New York Rangers were the first to benefit from this as they scored in the 3rd minute through Derek Stephan from a decent backhand shot to level the scores.
However, Florida Panthers started to come up with strong attacks after this. Excellent combination while constructing plays resulted in the Florida Panthers scoring two goals in quick succession to lead by two goals.
The first goal was scored by Keaton Ellerby in the 4th minute through a decent strike. In the very next minute, it was Mike Santorelli who scored to lead by two goals. Both teams continued to fire shots with some excellent ice hockey on display.
There were several goal scoring chances for both teams but no further goals were scored.
Florida Panthers led 3-1 as the second period ended with both teams making 12 goal attempts during the period.
The final period was totally dominated by the defence and offence of the New York Rangers. However, a defensive lapse in the 12th minute cost them the match and was the only mistake they did in the period.
New York Rangers started off the period attacking and two goals early on to level the proceedings. The first goal was scored by Brandon Prust from a simple tip in shot while the later was scored by Brian Boyle from a well placed flick shot.
A mistake at the back resulted in the Florida Panthers making their only goal attempt of the period which saw them scoring through Mike Weaver from a powerful strike. Despite New York Rangers numerous goal attempts, there were no further goals.
The period and match ended with Florida Panthers winning the match 4-3 in the end. During the final period, Florida Panther made 1 goal attempt while New York Rangers made 11 goal attempts.
