2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Los Angeles Kings thrash Dallas Stars 5-2
The Los Angeles Kings was up against the Dallas Stars this Thursday as part of the 135th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The game took place at the American Airlines Centre, home of the Dallas Stars. There were about 11,000 fans
that came in support of their respective teams to cheer them to victory. The game was dominated by the away team, as they scored 5 goals to complete a dominating performance that saw them winning the game 5-2.
1st Period
The period was evenly dominated by both teams as they both had brilliant pieces of play and a fair share of chances.
The first saw both teams maintain a very tight defence along with a very powerful attack. However, it was Los Angeles Kings who was the first to score and take the lead in the 4th minute. The goal was scored by Captain Dustin Brown who scored
from a splendid 12 feet shot that went flying past the goal keeper.
After taking the lead the away team decided to adopt a defensive strategy which saw them not making attacking during the time. This went against them as a mistake at the back result in them losing the lead.
The Dallas Stars scored in the 17th minute to level the match. The goal was scored by Brad Richards from an extravagant shot from 42 feet that that was perfectly placed in the top right corner giving the goal keeper no chance of stopping it. Both
teams were reluctant to attack with the scores level resulting in no more goals and chances during the period.
The period ended with both the teams at 1-1. Both team made 6 goal attempts going into the break scoring one goal each.
2nd Period
The 2nd period saw the Dallas Stars with a lot of determination to score. They attacked with full force and came close to scoring in the 7th minute only to be denied by the post. They almost scored once again with the very next play
but this time it was the goal keeper who was in the way.
However, the Los Angeles Kings put the foot on the gas after the 10th minute that resulted in them scoring in the 14th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Alexei Ponikarovsky through a flick shot from 14 feet. Taking the
lead the away team was all ready to take the challenge to strengthen their. They were successful in doing so in the same minute when they scored immediately after the restarted.
The goal was scored by Wayne Simmonds from close range through a simple tap in. From there onwards, the teams again switched to the defensive mode resulting in more goals and scoring opportunities during the remaining part of the period.
Both teams went into the break with the Los Angeles Kings in the lead at 3-1. The Kings scored 2 goals out of the 6 goal attempts, whereas shocking many, the Dallas Stars couldn’t score a goal out of 14 goal attempts they made!
3rd Period
The 3rd period saw the Los Angeles Kings score early on to establish 3 goals to their advantage with the score on 4-1. The goal was scored by Willie Mitchell in the 5th minute through a decent strike from 43 feet.
The home team was able to respond to this as they scored in the 11th minute to pull one back and take the score to 4-2. The goal was scored by Brandon Segal from 23 feet.
However, the Los Angeles Kings sealed the win with a goal in the 17th minute. The goal was scored by Justin Williams from 86 feet through a venomous shot. The period and the game ended with the score 5-2 in favour of the away team, Los Angeles
Kings.
During the course of the period, the home team made 12 goal attempts with 1 goal and the Los Angeles Kings scored twice out of the 12 goal attempts.
Jonathan Quick, goalie of the Los Angeles Kings was named the star selection of the match.
