2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: Minnesota Wild edge out ahead of Calgary Flames winning 2-1

The 183rd game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played today at the Xcel Energy Centre, home of Minnesota Wild. The game saw an attendance of 17,000 fans as the home side were up against Calgary Flames. Flames were playing their 13th
game of the campaign while Wild their 14th thus far.
The match had a slow start but as the periods progressed, both teams started to attack and come across goal scoring opportunities. It were Flames who scored first. The goal came in the 10th minute through a powerful strike by Rene Bourque.
The home team responded with attacks. They dominated the play for around 3 minutes at the end of which they scored to level the match. This goal came from Cal Cutterbuck via a flick shot from 20 feet. The 1st period ended with the score level at 1-1. Flames
made 11 goal attempts while Wild managed 10.
The 2nd period saw both teams attack and not back out or adopt defensive mentality. In fact, they committed all of their men in the attacks which saw them come up with goal scoring opportunities every now and then. There was some excellent ice
hockey on display as the puck was seen going to and fro with both teams working hard to take the lead. But still, there were no goals in the period.
The final period saw both teams determined to take the lead. They maintained tight defences. Waiting for spaces to develop, they were often seen attacking. Flames were the stronger of the two sides and came close to scoring in the 2nd minute only
to be denied by opponent’s excellent goalkeeping.
It were the home team which scored the all important third goal of the match that finally put them in the lead. It was scored in the 5th minute by Martin Havlat through a decent flick shot from 21 feet. There were no more goals even though Flames
had several chances to level. At the end, Minnesota Wild won by 2-1. The final period saw Wild making 4 goal attempts while Calgary Flames making 10 such attempts.
