2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Minnesota Wild impressive as they defeat the Nashville Predators 5-2
Friday, 26th October 2010 saw the Minnesota Wild play host to the Nashville Predators. The match was played at the Xcel Energy Centre and was the 325th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played in front of
18,000 fans as both teams played the 21st game of their respective campaign.
After the few early goal attempts by the Nashville Predators, it was the Minnesota Wild who dominated the proceedings and dictated the game.
The Minnesota Wild capitalized from the chances and scored quite a few times in the first period. The home team was backed up a fired up crowd who urged them to attack and score goals. The Minnesota Wild was certainly successful in responding as they took
the lead with a goal in the 13th minute of the period.
The goal was scored by Marek Zidlicky through a superb flick shot that broke the deadlock. The Minnesota Wild continued to attack after the goal and scored once again in the 16th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Andrew Brunette
through a brilliant backhand shot that went flying into the back of the net.
The Minnesota Wild was content on finishing the game in the first period and they were successful in doing so as they scored once again in the 19th minute. The goal was scored by Martin Havlat through a decent strike from long range.
The period came to an end with the teams making a few more goal attempts but no further goals were seen. During the course of the period, the Minnesota Wild made 9 goal attempts while the Nashville Predators made 6 goal attempts.
The 2nd period started on a high for the Minnesota Wild as they scored in the 48th second of the period to score their 4th goal of the match. The goal was scored by Nick Schultz through a powerful strike that went flying
into the net.
The away side started to attack after the goal as the Minnesota Wild took the foot off the gas. They Predators attacked and came close to scoring on one occasion but the goal keeper made a brilliant save.
The period ended with the Minnesota Wild leading 4-0. During the period the home team made 7 goal attempts while the Nashville Predators made 14 goal attempts.
The Nashville Predators responded with a goal in the 3rd period after continuous attacks. The goal was scored in the 4th minute by Steve Sullivan through a flick shot. The Nashville Predators in their search for another goal went on
the attacks with full force leaving behind a lot of space.
The Minnesota Wild took advantage of this and scored in the 15th minute to regain the 4 goals lead to their advantage. The goal was scored by Martin Havlat who bagged his second goal of the night through a spectacular backhand shot.
The last goal of the match was scored by Martin Erat in favour of the Nashville Predators which was no more consolation. The period and the match ended as the Minnesota Wild won the match 5-1.
During the final period the Minnesota Wild made 7 goal attempts with the Nashville Predators making 14 goal attempts.
