2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Minnesota Wild win 2-1 against the Anaheim Ducks

The 264th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild. The game was played at the Xcel Energy Centre, home of the Minnesota Wild.
The match was played in front of 17,000 fans as the Anaheim Ducks were up against the Minnesota Wild. This was the 21st game for the Anaheim Ducks while the 17th game for the Minnesota Wild of their campaign thus far.
The Anaheim Ducks made a good start to the match as they fired shots on the opposing goal early on. One of the few shots they made almost went in but was stopped by the goal keeper just on the goal line.
Minnesota Wild dominated much of the play for the rest of the period but they failed to convert any of the chances into goals. Minnesota Wild passed the puck and the passing was quick and pin point that frequently found the players in open positions. However,
the period didn’t see any goals being scored as the teams went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.
During the course of the first period, the Anaheim Ducks made 4 goal attempts while the Minnesota Wild made 11 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match saw the Anaheim Ducks start off the proceedings in similar fashion as the first one and fired shots on goal. The only difference this time was the fact that they managed to score in the 5th minute. The goal
was scored by Teemu Selanne through a well placed flick shot.
However, the home team also came up with some brilliant pieces of play and scored to level the score in the 7th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Martin Havlat from a spectacular backhand shot that went flying into the back of the net.
The period ended with the scores level at 1-1 with both the teams making 8 goal attempts during the course of the period.
The 3rd period of the match didn’t see any goals despite the fact that the Anaheim Ducks made 16 goal attempts and Minnesota Wild made 2 goal attempts. The away team was undoubtedly the stronger of the two teams but neither of the shots found
the back of the net.
However, Minnesota Wild won the match as they scored through Antti Miettinen’s flick shot in the 4th minute to make the final score 2-1.
