2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Minnesota Wild win 4-3 against the Detroit Red Wings after overtime
The 275th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Minnesota Wild play the Detroit Red Wings this Friday. The match was played at the Joe Louis Arena, home of the Minnesota Wild in front of 20,000 fans. This was the 18th
match for the Minnesota Wild and the 17th game for the Detroit Red Wings thus far.
Both the teams made a decent start to the match making early goal attempts. Some of the chances can be categorized as goal scoring opportunities but none of them were converted. The match saw the first goal being scored in the 9th minute of the
period. The goal was scored by Brent Burns through a spectacular flick shot that was perfectly placed.
Despite the goal being scored, both the teams continued to attack and there were several goal scoring opportunities for both the teams. But the period didn’t see any further goals as the Minnesota Wild led 1-0 going into the break.

The 2nd period saw the Minnesota Wild continue the attacks that they made and keep the attacking mentality in tact. They managed to convert a 2nd minute chance into a goal to double the lead. The goal was scored by Cal Clutterbuck through
a powerful strike.
The home team grew in confidence as they changed their strategy and this worked for them as they made numerous goal attempts.
The Detroit Red Wings were successful in scoring in the 20th minute of the final period to cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored by Darren Helm through a well placed flick shot. The period ended with the Minnesota Wild leading the score
2-1 as they made 3 goal attempts while the Detroit Red Wings made 18 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the Detroit Red Wings dictate the proceedings and they scored to level the score. The goal was scored in the 3rd minute through Johan Franzen’s shot. The Detroit Red Wings continued to attack and press on in search
of another goal. They were rewarded for their hard work with a goal in the 5th minute of the period. The goal came as a result a result of Patrick Eaves wrap around shot that put the Red Wings in the lead.
With a minute to go, the Minnesota Wild scored to level the scores once again and take the match into overtime. The goal was scored by Mikko Koivu in the 19th minute.
In overtime the Minnesota Wild scored through John Madden’s backhand shot to win the match 4-3.
