2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Montreal Canadiens win 2-0 against Vancouver Canucks
The 206th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series took place this Tuesday at the Centre Bell, home of the Montreal Canadiens. The match saw 21,000 fans come in support as the Vancouver Canucks played their 14th game while the
Montreal Canadiens played the 15th game of their respective campaign.
The match was a hard fought battle that saw the Montreal Canadiens eventually winning with the score 2-0 in their favour.
The home team had a great start to the match firing shots at the opposing goal every now and then. They came close to scoring in the early stages of the match but were denied by the goal post and the goal keeper.
The home team was able to take advantage of the start they had. Resultantly, they scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Andrei Markov through a flick shot from 11 feet which went through the legs of the goal keeper.
The period saw the Montreal Canadiens take the back foot after the goal, which resulted in the Vancouver Canucks coming across scoring opportunities every now and then. Though both teams came across scoring opportunities, they were unable to find any further
goal during the course of the period. Both teams went into the break with the Montreal Canadiens leading 1-0. During the period the Montreal Canadiens made 10 goal attempts while the Vancouver Canucks made 6 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw both teams adopt risk free attacking mentality that saw them waiting for opportunities. This rarely happened as both teams were restricted to long range shooting as a result. The period ended with the score 1-0 in favour of
the Carolina Hurricanes. During the 20 minutes of play the Hurricanes and the Canucks were levelled in terms of goal attempts that were 9.
The final period saw the Vancouver Canucks start off in spectacular fashion and almost scored in the opening minute but the shot went just wide. The Vancouver Canucks knew that they needed to score as early as possible and for this they put all their men
forward. This went against them as the Carolina Hurricanes caught them on a counter attack resulting in the 2nd goal of the match.
The goal was scored by Roman Hamrlik through a powerful strike from 29 feet.  Though the Vancouver Canucks came across numerous scoring opportunities, they were unable to capitalize.
The period and the match ended with the Carolina Hurricanes winning 2-0. During the final period, the Vancouver Canucks made 19 goal attempts while the Montreal Canadiens made 10 goal attempts.
