2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series - Montreal Canadiens win 3-1 against the New York Islanders

The 137th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Montreal Canadiens go to the Nassau Coliseum. The match saw the Montreal Canadiens play the New York Islanders. There were around 12,000 fans that came to watch the match, as the
Montreal Canadiens and the New York Canadiens played the 10th game of the campaign thus far this past Friday. This was one of the exciting matches that the fans were waiting to watch. The away team, Montreal Canadiens was able to edge in front of
the New York Islanders in the final period to win the match 3-1.
1st Period
The Montreal Canadiens had a strong start to the match as they came up with brilliant pieces of play at the start of the match. The away team not only had a very strong midfield but their attack up front was very dangerous.
The attacking mentality coupled with all of the facts above saw the Montreal Canadiens scoring in the 3rd minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Tomas Plekanec from close range through a flick shot during power play. Taking the lead,
the away team pressed on in search of another goal but they couldn’t score despite coming across numerous scoring opportunities.
The home team, New York Islanders on the other hand had a share of the chances but their attacks didn’t have the confidence that the opposing team had. Resultantly, they couldn’t score during the course of the period as the teams went into the break with
the score 1-0 in favour of the Montreal Canadiens.
The period saw the Montreal Canadiens score once out of the 12 goal attempts and the New York Islanders didn’t score any out of the 7 goal attempts they made.
2nd Period
The away team carried the last period’s form into this one as they continued to come across chances but much to their disappointment, they couldn’t score.
The period saw the home team; New York Islanders maintain a very tight defence after the first few attacks made by the away team. This tight defence was not only there when needed but it was able to restrict the opposing team to their half during the course
of the rest of the period.
The offence and attacks gained confidence as the period progressed and the New York Islanders scored to level the match. The goal was scored by Matt Martin through a powerful strike from 7 feet. Though the home team had many more chances of scoring but they
couldn’t find the back of the net.
The period ended with the score 1-1 with the New York Islanders scoring the only goal of the period out of the 13 goal attempts they made and the Montreal Canadiens didn’t score despite making 4 goal attempts.
3rd Period
The home team started the last period very strongly as they dominated play for the starting 5 minutes. The New York Islanders not only dominated the game in every department but they maintained possession which was the main reason of their dominance.
However, after the opening few minute the Montreal Canadiens put the foot on the gas and attacked the home team with full force that proved to be a little too much. Consequently, the Montreal Canadiens scored in the 8th minute to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Benoit Pouliot through a flick shot from 19 feet. Taking the lead and with 12 minutes left to play, the Montreal Canadiens continued to attack.
Though the Montreal Canadiens saw chances come but the shots went wide. During the middle part of the period, the home team was able to pile up some good attacks but the Montreal Canadiens goal keeper Alex Auld dealt with all of these easily.
The Montreal Canadiens sealed the match when they scored in the 18th minute to take the score to 3-1. The goal was scored by Travis Moen from 26 feet through an impressive shot that was perfectly placed. During the final period, both teams made
12 goal attempts with 2 goals in the period and both in favour of the Montreal Canadiens who won the match.
