2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Montreal Canadiens win 3-2 against the Buffalo Sabres

The 181st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Montreal Canadiens play the Buffalo Sabres. The match took place in front of 18,000 fans at the HSBC Arena, home of the Buffalo Sabres. This was the 13th and the 14th
game for Montreal Canadiens and the Buffalo Sabres respectively of their campaign thus far.
The match started off in spectacular fashion as both teams attacked from the beginning of the match, in almost breaking the dead lock at the start. However, it was not late into the period that we saw the first goal of the match. The goal was scored in the
18th minute in favour of the Buffalo Sabres. The goal was scored by Michael Grier through a backhand shot from 9 feet. The away team was able to respond to this as they started to come up with attacks too. This resulted in Montreal Canadiens scoring
in the 18th minute to level the score. The goal was scored by Jeff Halpern from a flick shot from 27 feet. The period ended with no further goal as both teams went into the break with the score tied at 1-1. During the course of the period, the home
team made 16 goal attempts, whereas the Montreal Canadiens made 10 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the home team start off in an extravagant manner as they approach game attackingly looking to attack from the start of the period. Their determination and hard work paid off as they scored in the 10th minute to take
the lead. The goal was scored by Jordan Leopold from a powerful strike. But the Montreal Candiens scored once again to level the match. This time the goal was scored by Benoit Pouliot through a spectacular backhand shot from 9 feet. The score at the time was
2-2 and it looked as if both teams would concentrate on defence now. However, this was not the case for the Montreal Canadiens as they continued to attack.
Their boldness to attack at the crunch time was rewarded and they scored to take the lead in the 18th minute. The goal was scored by Benoit Pouliot from a powerful strike. The period didn’t see any further goal as the 20 minute came to an end
with the score 3-2 in favour of the Montreal Canadiens. During the course of the 2nd period, the home team made 11 goal attempts and the Montreal Canadiens made 15 goal attempts.
The final period didn’t see any goals though the Canadiens made 7 goal attempts and the Buffalo Sabres made 4 goal attempts. The period and the match ended with the Montreal Canadiens winning 3-2.
