2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Nashville Predators win 4-3 against the Columbus Blue Jackets after shootout
The 360th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Columbus Blue Jackets play host to the Nashville Predators. The match was played at the Nationwide Arena this Wednesday in front of 10,000 fans as the home team search a victory.
This was the 24th game of the campaign for the Nashville Predators while the Columbus Blue Jackets played the 23rd game of the campaign thus far.
The match saw both teams start the match cautious as they were reluctant to go on the attack. They preferred to stay back and wait for opportunities to come their way. The home team was the stronger of the two teams in the offence but they failed to capitalize
early on and the scores was level in the early stages of the match.
However, as the end of the period neared it was the Nashville Predators that had the momentum in their favour and they were the ones who came across several scoring chances. Unlike the home side, the Predators managed to score in the 18th minute
to take the lead. The goal was scored by Colin Wilson from a wonderful flick shot that went through the legs of the goal keeper and into the back of the net.
The 2nd period saw the team approaching the game in the same manner as the last 20 minutes. Neither of the teams was in a hurry to score. They were very well aware of the counter-attacking abilities of each other.
However, the Columbus Blue Jackets was successful in leveling the score in the 8th minute. The goal was scored by Antoine Vermette from a well placed strike that sent the home crowd wild.
The Nashville Predators were eager to take the lead and in doing so came up with some brilliant pieces of play. The away side managed to score once again in the 17th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Sergei Kostitsyn.
The period ended with the Nashville Predators leading 2-1 and they made 8 goal attempts while the Columbus Blue Jackets made 7 goal attempts.
The final period saw the teams totally change the strategy and attack right from the start.
The Columbus Blue Jackets scored in the 3rd minute to level the scores. The goal was scored was scored by Kris Russell. The Columbus Blue Jacket continued to pile pressure on the opposing team and they scored once again in the 11th
minute to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Antoine Vermette from a spectacular long range strike. The Nashville Predators was able to respond to this with a goal in the 12th minute. The goal was scored by Kevin Klein from a powerful strike.
The regulation time ended with scores level on 3-3. The match went into overtime during which no goals were scored. However, the Nashville Predators won the match 4-3 with a goal in shootout by Steve Sullivan.
