2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – New Jersey Devils beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-0
The 86th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series took place at the home of the Montreal Canadiens, Centre Bell. The game took place this Thursday in front of around 22,000 fans that came to in support of their cherished and loved teams.
The game saw the New Jersey Devils play their 7th game of the regular series and the Montreal Canadiens play the 6th game of the season thus far. The game didn’t go well for the home team as the conceded 1 goal in each of the period and
lost the match 0-3.
1st Period
The home team started well in the first period but couldn’t convert the early chances into a goal, though they were in scoring position frequently. However, there came a time in the match that saw good few chances develop for the away team.
The New Jersey Devils didn’t let go of the chances and scored in the 5th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Zach Parise from 7 feet through a well placed shot that found the back of the net. The rest of the period didn’t see much
in terms of goals.
The Montreal Canadiens maintained a good and tight defence after conceding the goal which restricted the New Jersey Devils to nothing. The away team couldn’t come out of their half for most of the period and didn’t enjoy much possession either.
The home team dominated coming up with splendid plays, passing and shooting. All that was lacking was a goal. The period didn’t see them scoring, as the period ended with the score 1-0 in favour of the New Jersey Devils.
During the period, the Montreal Canadiens made 10 goal attempts but couldn’t score any goals, whereas the New Jersey made just 3 goal attempts but scored a goal.
2nd Period
During the 2nd period after the Montreal Canadiens made a few goal attempts, the New Jersey Devils came up with a non porous defence that was successful to stop any dangerous attacks that developed.
Though the home team got scoring opportunities once again but they didn’t score. There front line lacked the skill that they had shown during the last few games. However, the New Jersey Devils carried on with their game. In the lead and momentum in their
favour, the New Jersey Devils netted the puck once again in the 15th minute to take the score to 2-0 in their favour. The goal was scored by Jason Arnott from 31 feet from another splendid strike.
The period didn’t see any more plays develop that could be categorized as dangerous. During the period, the New Jersey Devils scored once out of the 8 goal attempts they made. While the Canadiens could just manage the 5 early shots and spent much of the
period defending.
3rd Period
With the start of the 3rd period, the New Jersey Devils were content on finishing the Montreal Canadiens completely. They were successful in doing so when they scored in the 4th minute to seal the win.
The goal was scored by Matt Toarmina from a powerful shot from 52 feet that went flying into the goal. After scoring the goal, the away team decided to take their foot off the gas and was content on keeping the possession.
This resulted in some goal scoring opportunities for the Montreal Canadiens but they failed to score and the match ended with the score 3-0 in favour of the New Jersey Devils. During the period, the New Jersey Devils scored once out of the 9 goal attempts
they made. But much to the disappointment of the fans, the Montreal Canadiens couldn’t score any goals despite making 14 goal attempts.
The win was great boost for the New Jersey Devils goal keeper Martin Bordeur, who ended his night after making 29 saves out of 29 goal attempts. At the end of the match the 1st star selection Martin Bordeur said, "We have a big weekend ahead
of us, so we wanted to get a good start to our three games in four nights,"
Brodeur said after his 29-save performance extended his League-record career total to 112 shutouts.
"But we have to build on it. You don't start a season the way we did and think one game is going to fix everything. We have to keep working the way we did tonight."
"Tonight I thought (the Devils) were on the puck and we just didn't find ways to get the puck behind Brodeur,"
Canadiens Coach Jacques Martin said.
