2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – New Jersey Devils win 2-1 against the Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks hosted the New Jersey Devils as part of the 142nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The game took place this Friday at the Honda Centre in front of 15,000 fans. The New Jersey Devils and the Anaheim Ducks both played
the 11th game of their campaign thus far and were hoping to register a win. The game was one of the tough and hard fought battles that the New Jersey Devils won by 1 goal to their advantage in the end.
1st Period
The first period started off in a spectacular manner for the Anaheim Ducks. They displayed some excellent skill with puck. From the department of passing to shooting they gave the New Jersey Devils got no space and scoring chance.
The constant attacks that the home team was coming up with resulted in open spaces at the back. Keeping this in mind, the home team started to consider defending. However, this went against them as the New Jersey Devils grew in confidence and bombarded shots
on the opposing goal regularly. Though they didn’t score but the home team and fans got goose bumps after some splendid display of ice hockey.
Both teams had a share of the scoring chances but none of the shots found the back of the net. During the course of the period, the home team made 7 goal attempts and the New Jersey Devils made 14 goal attempts but none of the shots found the back of the
net.
2nd Period
The opening few minutes of the 2nd period were no different from the previous period. There were chances which were difficult and rare but more importantly there were no goals.
However, the Anaheim Ducks broke the deadlock in the 9th minute during power play. The goal was scored by Jason Blake through a flick shot from 10 feet. Taking the lead, the home team put pressure on the New Jersey Devils defence in search of
another goal.
The Devils defence was able to cope with the pressure and silenced the home crowd with a stunning goal in the 11th minute. The goal was scored by the New Jersey Devils Captain Jamie Langenbrunner from 15 feet through a splendid strike.
The period ended with the scores level at 1-1. Both teams scored once with the New Jersey Devils making 8 goal attempts and the Anaheim Ducks making 12 goal attempts.
3rd Period
The New Jersey Devils came out in the 3rd period making few attacks in the early stages. The New Jersey Devils was rewarded in the 2nd minute of the period with a goal that came from a powerful strike from 48 feet by Patrik Elias.
The away team concentrated on defence after taking the lead. They were successful in maintaining a very tight and strong defence which saw them winning the match.
The period and match ended with the New Jersey Devils winning the match 2-1. During the course of the period, the home team made 9 goal attempts and scoring no goals whereas the New Jersey Devils scored once out of the 5 goal attempts.
After the match, the New Jersey Devils Coach regarding rookie Alexander Vasyunov said, "He played a great game," Devils coach John MacLean said,
“he was only in the lineup because fellow rookie Jacob Josefson was out with a hand injury. "I thought that line played really well and he deserved to be out there. He contributed all night. He had a lot of speed in our lineup and he's a big kid who competes
hard and if he keeps doing that, he'll be fine."
"It's a big game, but I feel good. I feel like I played two years in the NHL,"
Vasyunov said jokingly about how calm he felt. "For sure, I'm nervous a little bit, but I don't know, it feels great."
"It's a huge win for us -- hopefully it will get us on the right track,"
Devils center Jason Arnott said. "Everybody played solid, from Marty on out. Everybody contributed in one way or another. We've got to keep it going. We can't just sit on one good game and have four bad games. We've got to keep it rolling."
