2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series: New Jersey Devils win 4-3 against Edmonton Oilers

The 227th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played between New Jersey Nets and Edmonton Oilers this Friday at Prudential Centre, home of Devils in front of 15,000 fans. It was the 15th game for Oilers and 17th
for Devils in the campaign thus far. The match was a tough battle that saw Devils win 4-3 after overtime.
Oilers were strongly out of the blocks as they managed to come up with some brilliant pieces of play that resulted in them scoring in the 5th minute to take the first lead. The goal was scored by Colin Fraser through a flick shot from close range.
Oilers continued with the strong attack up front that resulted in another goal in the 10th minute, scored by Colin Fraser from 30 feet through a decent strike.
The home team pulled one goal back in the 16th minute. It was scored by Alexander Vasyunov through a quick shot from 15 feet that went flying into the back of the net. The 1st period ended with Oilers leading 2-1 as Devils made 14 goal attempts
while Oilers made 12.
The 2nd period saw Oilers come out determined to score more. This time, the goal was scored by Sam Gagner through 13 feet shot that went into the goal after taking a deflection in the 6th minute.
The home team started to make good attacks as the period neared its end. This resulted in them scoring in the 17th minute through Brain Rolston from 8 feet. The 2nd period also ended with Oilers leading 3-2. Devils made 10 goal attempts while
Oilers made 8 attempts during the period.
The 3rd period was less productive in terms of goals scored as only one goal came in those 20 minutes. That too scored by Mattias Tedenby during power play through a shot from 12 feet. Consequently, the match went into overtime where New Jersey
Devils scored through Ilya Kovalchuk in the 4th minute to win the game 4-3.
