2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– New York Islanders win 2-0 against New Jersey Devils
The 2nd game of Friday saw the New York Islanders play host to the New Jersey Devils. The game was played at the Nassau Coliseum in front of around 11,000 fans as the 322nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series began.
This was the 23rd game for the New Jersey Devils while the New York Islanders played their 22nd game of the season thus far.
The New York Islanders made a very big statement as they almost scored with the first three touches of the match. Although the shot was stopped by the goal keeper but the confidence they got urged them to make attacks.
The New York Islanders successfully scored in the 2nd minute of the match to take the lead of the match. The goal was scored by Jesse Jeonsuu from a powerful strike. The period saw the home team attacking again and again, which meant frequent
scoring opportunities. The Islanders were undoubtedly the stronger of the two teams in the department of offence but they couldn’t score any further goals.
The New Jersey Devils also came up with some goal attempts at the end of the period but they couldn’t score as the defence of the home team was very strong to get past. The period ended with the New York Islanders leading 1-0. During the course of the period
the New York Islanders made 13 goal attempts while the New Jersey Devils made just 5 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the home side start off in a similar fashion as they started the first period. The attacks they made were well constructed and they successfully got past the opposing defence regularly. The defence coupled with this was commendable
too as they restricted the away side to long range shooting only.
The only goal of the period was scored by the New York Islanders that doubled their lead. The goal was scored by Rob Schremp through a well placed flick shot in the 6th minute. After establishing a 2 goal lead to their advantage, the home side
preferred to stay back and enjoy possession.
The New Jersey Devils made shots as a result of getting some breathing space but failed to convert any of their chances into goals. The period came to an end with the New York Islanders leading 2-0. During the course of the 2nd period the Devils
made 11 goal attempts while the Islanders made 6 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the home team in defensive mode as they didn’t make any attacks. The away side on the other hand bombarded shots on goal but unfortunately couldn’t score. The period and the match ended as the New York Islanders won the
match 2-0.
During the course of the final period the New York Islanders just made 1 goal attempt while the New Jersey Devils made 13 goal attempts.
