2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– New York Rangers win 2-1 against Calgary Flames

The 300th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the New York Rangers play host to Calgary Flames. The match was played at the Madison Square Garden this Monday. There were around 18,000 fans that came in support of their respective
teams as the Calgary Flames played their 20th game while the New York Rangers played their 22nd game of the season thus far.
The home team was quick out off the blocks as they made goal attempts regularly and were seen in open positions frequently. The only thing they lacked was in the department of finishing. Their shooting, passing and defence was decent but by no means was
matched by the offence that looked rugged right from the start.
Both the teams had their share of scoring chances but no goals were scored during the course of the period. The teams went into the break with scores deadlocked at 0-0. During the period, the Rangers made 8 goal attempts while the Calgary Flames made 6 goal
attempts.
The 2nd period of the match proved to be very entertaining as both the teams were able to dominate the play for a few minutes during which good ice hockey skills were observed.
The New York Rangers scored in the 3rd minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Brain Boyle from a flick shot that was placed in the right corner. Taking the lead, the home team continued to attack which went against them.
The Flames gained confidence from the open spaces they found, which resulted in them coming across numerous scoring chances. The Flames managed to level the scores with a goal in the 6th minute. The goal was scored by Jarome Iginla through a simple
tip in shot.
The home team with the backing of the home crowd was successful in regaining the lead with a goal in the 13th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Dan Girardi from a powerful strike that went into the net like a flash leaving the goal
keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the New York Rangers in the lead with the score on 2-1. During the course of the period, the Rangers made 8 goal attempts while the Calgary Flames made 11 goal attempts.
The New York Rangers started off the final period strongly but it was the Calgary Flames, who ended it on a high. They managed to fire 15 shots at the end but much to their disappointment, they couldn’t score as the match and period ended with the Rangers
winning 2-1. The New York Rangers also made 8 goal attempts in the final period.
