2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – New York Rangers win 5-2 against the Minnesota Wild
The 290th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series were the Minnesota Wild who were playing host to the New York Rangers this Saturday. The game saw 19,000 fans come in to support their respective teams at the Xcel Energy Centre as the home
team Minnesota Wild played their 19th game of the season while the New York Rangers played their 21st game of the season.
The first period of the match saw both the teams make a good start to the match. Excellent pieces of play were seen with the occasional shots on the goal. But to the disappointment of fans, neither of the teams was able to score during the course of the
period.
Both the teams had several chances but they failed to capitalize from them as the period ended goalless with the Minnesota Wild making 10 goal attempts while the New York Rangers made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period of the match was totally dominated by the away team as they dictated proceedings from the start of the match. Not only leading in the department of passing and defence but also shooting.
The away team was successful in taking the lead with a goal in the 9th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Artem Anisimov from a flick shot. The away team continued to put pressure on the home team and doubled the lead with another goal
in the 15th minute of the period. The goal was scored by Del Zotto.
The New York Rangers completed the dominated performance with another goal in the final minute of the period. The goal was scored by Alex Frolov from a wrap around shot that took the score to 3-0 in favour of the Rangers at the end of the 2nd
period.
The final period saw the Rangers scoring once again in the 5th minute to establish 4 goals lead to their advantage with the goal scored by Brandon Dubinsky.
The Minnesota Wild responded with a goal in the 13th minute of the period through Matt Cullen’s backhand shot but the New York Rangers scored once again to regain the 4 goals lead. The goal was scored by Ruslan Fedotenko from a backhand shot.
The final goal of the period and the match was scored by Minnesota Wild, but was merely a consolation. The goal was scored by Martin Havlat in the 16th minute as the New York Rangers won the match 5-2.
