2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series– Nicklas Lidstroms’s goal put Detroit Red Wings 5-4 ahead of Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames against the Detroit Red Wings was the 295th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series that was played at the Joe Louis Arena, home of the Red Wings. There were around 20,000 fans that came in support of their teams as the
Calgary Flames played their 19th game while the Detroit Red Wings played their 18th game.
The match was very entertaining yet a very tight encounter that saw the Detroit Red Wings eventually win 5-4 in the end.
The Detroit Red Wings made a great start to the match as they attacked right from the start of the match. The home team came close to scoring in the opening few minutes of the match as they executed the strategy to perfection.
The Detroit Red Wings successfully took the lead as they scored in the 2nd minute of the period. The goal was scored by Johan Franzen from a powerful strike that went flying into the back of the net.
The Calgary Flames responded to this as they settled as time passed in the period. Despite being the away team they managed to gain momentum and scored in the 6th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Niklas Hagman from a splendid
backhand shot that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The period ended as both the teams were level on 1-1 with the Flames making 6 goal attempts while the Red Wings made 9 goal attempts.
The Calgary Flames continued the performance in the 2nd period as they finished the previous period strongly. They managed to score in the opening minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Jarome Iginla from a well placed flick shot.
The away side continued to pile pressure on the Detroit Red Wings. The home team’s defence crumbled once again and the Calgary Flames scored in the 5th minute to take the score to 3-1 in their favour. The goal was scored by Jarome Iginla once
again through a powerful strike.
Though the home team responded strongly with attacks frequently, they were unable to score and the period ended with the Calgary Flames leading. During the course of the period, the Flames made 13 goal attempts while the Detroit Red Wings made 11 goal attempts.
The final period of the match saw the Detroit Red Wings backed by the home crowed start their journey in search of goals. They managed to score in the 3rd minute to cut the lead to 1 goal. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from a simple tip
in shot.
However, the Detroit Red Wings chances of a comeback were hurt as the Flames scored their fourth goal in the 8th minute through Alex Tanguay.
The Detroit Red Wings confidence was sky high despite trailing by 2 goals and they managed to score in the 12th and the 20th minute to level the score and take the match into overtime. Both the goals were scored by Henrik Zetterberg.
The period ended with the scores level on 4-4 and the Detroit Red Wings scored in overtime to win the match 5-4. The goal was scored by Niklas Lidstrom through a backhand shot in the 2nd minute of overtime.
