2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series –Ottawa Senators win 3-2 against the Los Angeles Kings

The Ottawa Senators played host to the Los Angeles Kings as part of the 303rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. There were around 18,000 fans that came to support their teams at the Scotiabank Place as the match took place this Monday.
This was the 20th game of the campaign for the Los Angeles Kings while the 21st game for the Ottawa Senators.
Both teams made a decent start to the match. The offence and the defence both displayed some good skills. The attacks led by the offence were dangerous and the opposition looked to score each time the puck came in the defending team’s half.
On the other hand, these attacks were easily dealt with by the defence of both the teams until the 10th minute when the Ottawa Senators finally got past the opposing defence to score and take the lead.
The goal was scored by Alex Kovalev from a powerful strike that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The Los Angeles Kings were able to respond to this with strong attacks which resulted in the away side scoring in the 17th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Anze Kopitar who scored from a quick shot that caught the goal keeper
by surprise.
The period provided both teams with a few more chances but no goals were scored as the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. The period saw the Ottawa Senators making 8 goal attempts while the Los Angeles Kings made 12 goal attempts.
Scoring the recent goal in the last period, the Los Angeles Kings constructed attacks from the confidence they gained and scored once in the 8th minute of the 2nd period to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Ryan Smyth from a simple tip in shot. However, after this the home teams attacked and tried their utmost to score. They finally managed to score in the final minute of the period through Milan Michalek from a powerful strike that levelled
the scores on 2-2 once again.
The period ended with the scores level 2-2 this time with both the teams making 7 goal attempts during the 20 minutes of play.
Los Angeles Kings started the final period with a total attacking mentality. They didn’t care whether they left open spaces at the back or not. The only thing they wanted was to score.
However, this backfired as the Ottawa Senators caught them on a counter attack to score the only goal of the period. The goal was scored by Jason Spezza from a flick shot in the 12th minute that proved to be the winning goal as the Senators won
3-2.
The final period saw the Ottawa Senators making 4 goal attempts while the Kings made 11 goal attempts.
