game of the season and the Colorado Avalanche playing in their 2nd game. The game was an evenly balanced battle that the Philadelphia Flyers eventually won 4-2.
1st Period

However, the dead lock was broken in the 13th minute when the Philadelphia Flyers took the lead through Claude Giroux. The goal was a result of a fabulous 6 feet backhand that took the score 1-0.
The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t take the foot of the gas and penetrated the Colorado Avalanche’s defence deep into their half. This occasionally resulted in the Philadelphia Flyers in open positions and they took advantage of this in the 18th minute

2nd Period
The 2nd period saw very tough and rough 20 minutes of play as both teams battled hard to win the match. The Philadelphia Flyers dominated the early part of the period where they came up with numerous shots only for the goalkeeper to come in the
way. With the score still 2-0, the Colorado Avalanche pushed for a goal as they had to get a goal if they wanted to win.
The Colorado Avalanche was successful in doing so when they scored in the 10th minute of the 2nd period through Brandon Yip from a 24 feet slap off. The cut down the Philadelphia Flyers lead to just 1 goal with the score 2-1.
Both teams fancied chances of a win but it wasn’t to happen for them as yet. The Philadelphia Flyers wanted to seal the win with another goal and the Colorado Avalanche was looking to make a comeback trailing by 1 goal. However, the period ended on the same
score and the away team, Colorado Avalanche scored once out of the 10 goal attempts they made. The Philadelphia Flyers weren’t able to score out of the 10 shots they fired at the opposing goal.
3rd Period

Both teams were looking to make the most of the score that gave both teams a chance to win. The Colorado Avalanche was the team that had the momentum and confidence as they cut the 2 goal deficit to come back.
The Philadelphia Flyers were momentarily stunned by what happened but they regrouped at once knowing that they had no time to waste. With the belief that they could win, the Philadelphia Flyers put up an extravagant display of ice hockey. They scored to
take the lead through Jeff Carter who bagged his 2nd goal of the night in the 18th minute.
The Philadelphia Flyers sealed the win in the 19th minute when they scored once again to take the score to 4-2. The goal was scored by a splendid backhand hit by Darroll Powe. The match ended as the Philadelphia Flyers won the match 4-2.
"I like emotion," Coach Peter Laviolette. "I'm a believer that you grab it and harness it. Use it to your advantage, don't use it recklessly."
"He was able to tip the puck to me on the breakaway and I made a little move and it worked,"
Giroux said. "Any time you can score goals, you obviously gain more confidence. You feel great about yourself."
"We fought back hard and competed until the final whistle, but we made a few mistakes and on the power play, you're not supposed to lose momentum," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said.
