2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Philadelphia Flyers host Calgary Flames in their only encounter of the season

The Philadelphia Flyers and the Calgary Flames will be facing each other in the only encounter of the season tomorrow. Last season the two teams met each other once during which the Philadelphia Flyers won the match 3-0 comprehensively. Mike Richards was
the stand out player in the match who bagged two goals as the Flyers marched towards a victory. Their meeting on 9th March 2009 saw the Calgary Flames overpower the Flyers 5-1 but times have changed now.
Both teams are heading and placed in the opposite ends of the league table. The Calgary Flames put up quite a show against the strong New Jersey Devils team but lost the match after shootout. They currently sit in the 14th position in the league
while their opposition is enjoying quite a successful time.
The Philadelphia Flyers have won three games in a row heading into the match and will are confident of keeping the winning streak intact. The Flyers top the league and many expect them to retain the position after they square off against the Calgary Flames.
The Calgary Flames have been unable to find the touch in the offence as Wednesday’s loss was the second game they lost by a margin of one goal. The last game they lost after shootout which was even more disappointing.
The team Captain is currently in good form and continues to impress fans all around. Jarome Iginla has scored 6 goals in the last 4 goals leads the Calgary Flames by example.
However, the Calgary Flames are frequently hurt by the lack of power in their offence and if they are to win then the offence surely needs to put the foot on the gas. The only other player who has more than 2 goals in the attacking line up of the Flames
is Rene Bourque who has scored 10 goals so far.
The Flames have a very good defensive line that has restricted the opposition to fewer goals most of the times and the last four games have seen rookie goalie Henrik Karlsson come up with superb performances. Last time out he stopped 20 out of the 21 shots
though they lost the games in end after shootout.
On the other hand the Philadelphia Flyers have seen contributions coming from everywhere and the last 20 goals for the Flyers have been scored by 11 different players.
"It's been pretty consistent like that all year," said Coach Peter Laviolette. "We don't have a top-five scorer. We've got lines and people that are contributing. On any given night, it's not the same person or same line over and over. … I thought there
was a lot of consistency in our scoring and our attack. Don't have to rely on just one person."
The Calgary Flames have played 21 games so far and won 10 out of the games sitting with 18 points. While the league leaders have played 23 games out of which they have won 17 games and sit in a commanding position with 32 points.
The Philadelphia Flyers have a very good chance of winning the game and are in a very strong position with the recent form they have come up with.
