2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Philadelphia Flyers host the Boston Bruins
The Philadelphia Flyers will be hosting the Boston Bruins this Wednesday in the first of four encounters. Last season both the teams faced each other four times with both the teams winning 2 games each. The last match played between the two teams was on
the 11th of March 2011 that saw the Boston Bruins absolutely thrash the Flyers 5-1.
Both teams have had a very long rivalry and this spring was an example of how tense the battle was as the teams faced each other. This spring the Philadelphia Flyers wrote their name in the pages of history as it was the first time in 35 years that they
won a series being 3-0 down. After losing the first three games they came up with four consecutive wins to grab the series and that too in Boston. This was part of the pre-season and saw the final game being very tough as Philadelphia Flyers won the match
after trailing 3-0 in the final period.
The Boston Bruins haven’t have had the best of starts to the season and the last game against the Atlanta Thrashers further added to their disappointment. The Boston goalie Tuukka Rask didn’t get much help from the defence that supported him and crumbled
in front of the strong attacks made by the Thrashers. The Bruins lost the match 4-1 and was no way near the level of game it is capable of showing.
The Boston Bruins have till now played 22 games out of which they have registered a total of 14 wins with 2 wins in overtime. They currently have scored 26 points. Their counterparts on the other hand have played 25 games thus far. Out of the 25 games they
have won a total of 19 games with 4 win in overtime. They have scored 34 points so far and sit in a comfortable position ahead of their Eastern Conference rivals.
The Philadelphia Flyers had a busy schedule in the last 17 days as they played 10 games. The team’s last game was a very tough and hard fought battle that saw them losing 2-1 in the end against the New Jersey Devils. The match was evenly balanced with a
goal apiece in the regulation time but the Devils got the better of the Flyers winning the match after shootout.
The Flyers have come up with decent if not impressive performances scoring 14 out of a possible 20 points that were on a grab during the course of the last 17 days. The Flyers lost the last three games and before that were on a winning role. The tight schedule
might have played a vital part in this but now they are up and ready to win games once again.
Leading in the Flyers would be their captain Mike Richards who has scored 9 goals in the last 19 games and sits in a good position with 22 points. He would be given a tough time by the goalie of the Boston Bruins, Tim Thomas who has won a role himself, maintaining
0.951 saves percentage.
"I think right now, our team is not playing to win. We seem to be playing to lose," Bruins Coach Claude Julien said after Sunday's loss to Atlanta.
