2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Philadelphia Flyers to host the San Jose Sharks
The 406th game of 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series will be hosted by the Philadelphia Flyers this Wednesday. The home team will be up against the San Jose Sharks. This is the one and only time that the teams are scheduled to meet during the
course of the season. The last time the teams met were on the 20th of November 2010; the San Jose Sharks thrashed the Flyers 6-3. Dany Heatley was the main player for the San Jose Sharks during the match and he scored 3 goals in the match as the
Sharks marched to a comfortable and dominating win.
Regarding the future of the goalkeeper of the Philadelphia Flyers, Michael Leighton the General Manager said that he would be staying in the NHL and with the Flyers for some more time. The goalie was supposed to go back to the AHL but the NHL has granted
him some more time to stay in NHL for around 2 more years.
The General Manager said, "In my opinion he still needs more work," Holmgren told the media Monday. "Rather than sticking him in with the Flyers, it's a better option for us right now. He's a big guy and he hasn't really played a full game since September.
I think to get him a couple more games it's going to be better for him and better for us."
The Philadelphia Flyers have been on a role recently. They have come up with back to back wins against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday and then against the New York Islanders this Sunday. The home team will be looking to extend the winning streak to three
as they play the San Jose Sharks tomorrow.
The Flyers will have a very tough time as they will be playing three games in four days from Wednesday onwards. Last time out, the Flyers saw Danny Briere scoring with 6 minutes left to play which proved to be the winner as they defeated the New York Islanders
3-2.
The Philadelphia Flyers have currently played 28 games out of which they have won 21 games and sit in a strong position with 38 points. On the other hand, the San Jose Sharks have played 26 games so far out of which they have won 17 games scoring 30 points.
San Jose Sharks was sitting in the last position in the Pacific division but the 5-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings saw the Sharks move up. Logan Couture and Dany Heatley were among the scorers with the goalkeeper Antti Niemi coming up with a splendid
performance which saw him making 25 goal attempts.
"The motivation can't be external, it has to be internal in our locker room," Coach Todd McLellan said. "Until we get that, until we make that decision -- and I've said that over and over and over again -- we'll continue to play the way we're playing. I
don't know when the light is going to go on. They prove to each other on alternating game nights that they can do it."
The Flyers will be pleased to know that their winger, Andrea Nodl sits in the 7th spot with 6 goals in the player standings with Mike Richards bagging goals regularly too.
